Training up for Busso 100? or Cairns IM? Or just love a long ride?

Rides over 90 minutes require extra fuel to assist with maintaining energy levels and performance for the duration of the ride.
How much you need depends on your gut tolerance (not your body mass).

An easy way to start is to aim for 1 bidon ( ~700ml) sports drink (made up correctly if from powder) PLUS one food item that provides ~20-30g carbohydrate per hour. This provides ~60-70g carb/hr.

Once this is tolerated you can start to push for two items per hour OR try a higher carb drink ( eg: premium fuel OR 60g carb mix).

When aiming for 90g carbs/hr it’s impt to ensure a combination of fuels (glucose and fructose) to optimise absorption.

Our team of Sports Dietitians are experts in endurance nutrition and can provide tailored advice and lots of different options to fuel your long rides, maximise performance and optimise gut tolerance.

2024 World Triathlon Multisport Championships 💚💛
Aquathlon: 2.5km run | 1km swim | 2.5km run
Still flying high after an amazing experience in Townsville.

The event was awesome, Townsville was stunning and all the local eateries were perfect for fuelling!

💚 Firstly, the heat. After last year, I knew that racing in Townsville required some preparation as the temp looks fine but the humidity cooks and really slows my run.
So I spent 60-90 mins in a sauna every day for 10 days prior to travelling, with the hope of some heat acclimation. And it worked!
The race was low 20’s but 92% humidity🥵 and I didn’t notice it once during the race. 👊🏼 Stoked.
💚 Food. We stayed in a hotel on the Strand, walking distance to coles and restaurants.
Prior to the race I mainly stuck with cereal, fruit and yoghurt plus simple meals that we could heat up in the microwave.
My race was approx 45mins in duration so a proper carb load wasn’t needed but a focus on increased fluids and carbs the day before certainly paid off.
After the race it was great to visit all the local cafes for Bahn mi rolls, iced coffee and delicious meals. All the staff were awesome, especially since they’d been inundated with athletes for the last 2 weeks!
💚 Race nutrition. My wave was 8.05am and we were only a few 100m from transition and the start line. So an easy breakie of cereal at 6am plus an iced Powerade to precool was easy to fit in.
gel 20 mins prior to racing and that’s it! Nothing during the race but a bit of water thrown over my head.
Recovery of fruit, iced coffee and waffles. Perfect combo of protein, carbs and electrolytes 😎

💚 Next up. Ironman 70.3 World Championships in Taupo, NZ. 14 weeks tomorrow. Planning to ride the high through the next block of training ✌🏼

💚 Lastly. THANK YOU. Everyone who got in touch with well wishes and congrats, I really appreciate all your support. Representing Australia has been a lifelong dream and it was so great to share it with so many people x

Perfect conditions for my favourite race!
Loved every minute racing from Cape Naturaliste to Dunsborough with teammate Sandy.
Beautiful clear water, an eagle ray for company and overcast, cooler conditions for the run. Perfect.
