Postvention Australia is a national organisation dedicated to helping people bereaved by suicide.

As the financial year comes to an end, we wanted to send a big thank you to our members, donors, funders and supporters! Thanks for your support in helping us to continue to advocate for people and communities bereaved by su***de, and to build hope. Your backing is so very much appreciated.

We need your help to continue our work supporting people and communities impacted by su***de loss. Please consider joining Postvention Australia as a paid member, or donating via our website (donations over $2 are tax deductible). Our SA-IT educational resources are also available for a small fee, and will soon be growing (keep an eye out for this).

We're excited, and proud to be announced as a successful recipient of a Compassionate Community Grant from . This grant is supporting the development of our SA-IT online educational resources to support people, families, and communities bereaved by su***de. Thank you to for selecting Australia as a recipient, and also for providing the broader grant program, aimed at grass roots organisations supporting people and communities affected by su***de loss. We'd like to wish all a happy holiday season, and convey a big thank you to our supporters for all contributions in 2024. We're looking forward to 2025, and to continuing our efforts to support people and communities impacted by su***de loss.

We also recognize and acknowledge some this time of year is very challenging. Whatever your experience, we wanted to take this opportunity to remind each of you to be kind to yourselves and each other. Take the time to connect with those you care about and take moments of quiet when needed.

Tomorrow is International Survivors of Su***de Loss Day, a day on which we recognise the grief of people impacted by su***de bereavement, and on which we encourage them to build hope and healing, through connection with others who have also suffered su***de loss. Please know that you’re not alone. On this day, we encourage you to connect with others, and to share your stories and memories of your loved one.

Postvention Australia advocates for people, families, and communities who have experienced su***de bereavement. Our website provides further information on su***de loss, links to support groups, a directory of support services in NSW, a care pack resource and other educational resources.

A lot of very important announcements were made over the past two weeks, including the submission of the Royal Commission report into Veteran Su***de; the release of draft advice on Su***de Prevention Strategy by the National Su***de Prevention Office; and importantly World Su***de Prevention Day.

Australia is very excited to announce the launch of SA-IT (Su***de Prevention Intervention Training), an online training module to teach people and communities to be able to speak safely to, and support those at risk of su***de, and to be aware of risk factors and changes in behaviour. The team has put a lot of work into this resource, and we hope that it's of benefit to many and that it builds confidence and capability in the community on things they can do to help prevent su***de.

We join many others in marking World Su***de Prevention day on 10th September, taking time to honor the memories of people lost to su***de, and to acknowledge the grief of people bereaved by su***de. We also acknowledge the work of people, communities, organisations, and government towards su***de prevention. This day also provides opportunities to talk about about su***de prevention and su***de loss, and to join others in community events. Speaking about experiences can help build hope, raise awareness, and support understanding.
