That's exactly why today's date was chosen as World Down Syndrome Day. But here's what we reckon doesn't get said enough...
What the rest of us gain.
Not in an inspirational-poster kind of way. In a real, specific, "this quietly changes how you move through the world" kind of way.
People with Down syndrome tend to be direct. Not rude... but direct.
No hidden agenda, no second-guessing what they actually mean. In a world full of noise and subtext, that's rarer than most of us realise. 💙
They're loyal in a way that's hard to fake. When someone with Down syndrome is in your corner, you know it. It's not conditional, it's not complicated.
And there's a kind of presence they bring... an ability to be genuinely in the moment, without the weight of yesterday or the anxiety of tomorrow.
Some of us spend a fortune on apps and retreats trying to get there. 😉
Today isn't just about awareness. It's about appreciation... for what gets added to our lives when inclusion is actually real and not just a hashtag. 🩷
