We’re investigating an outbreak of Legionnaires’ disease in Craigieburn and the surrounding suburbs. Six cases have been notified as of 18 March 2026. This investigation seeks to identify the source of the outbreak through testing local cooling towers and other potential sources.

The disease is spread by breathing in fine droplets of water that contain the bacteria. It is not spread from person to person or by drinking contaminated water.

Legionnaires’ disease can cause a chest infection with symptoms of fever, chills, cough, headache, muscle aches and pains.

People at increased risk of developing Legionnaires’ disease include those aged over 40 years, those who smoke, or have an underlying medical condition.

People who have been in Craigieburn or the surrounding suburbs of Mickleham, Greenvale and Roxburgh Park from late February and who develop flu-like illness should seek medical care.

Dimboola campus is celebrating an extraordinary milestone shared by a mother–daughter duo. Care Community Manager Breanna Eldridge has reached her 20‑year nursing milestone on the same day her mother, Susie Barber, was honoured for an incredible 50 years of service.

As the profile notes of mother and daughter were read out, you became instantly aware of a common theme – a working characteristic that has descended from mother to daughter. No matter the situation, they both have a natural propensity to remain calm and keep others calm during any crisis.

Susie commenced her nursing training in 1975 at Horsham then worked her entire career at the Dimboola campus, starting when it was known as Dimboola Memorial Hospital. Breanna began her training at Wimmera Base Hospital and worked in Oxley and then ICU while completing her Critical Care training. Breanna has nursed half her career at Horsham and the latter half at Dimboola where she not only share-manages the care community but also oversees the acute care unit.

According to Breanna’s fellow Care Community Manager Amy Elliott, there is also a common theme outside of the working role for Susie and Breanna.

“They are both amazing cooks who love to entertain,” Amy said.

🍀Happy St Patrick's Day🍀

Our Grampians Health Stawell Radiology Reception Team are spreading a little Irish luck this St Patrick’s Day, brightening their space with festive greens and plenty of cheerful flair.

Front and centre you’ll find their resident skeleton, now proudly answering to ‘Lucky Bones O’Malley.’ With his leprechaun hat perched just right and a pot of gold at his feet, he’s on a mission to charm everyone who walks by and maybe guard his treasure from any sneaky hands.

If you’re in the neighbourhood, swing past Radiology for a peek. Who knows… Lucky Bones might just share a little Irish luck with you. 🍀✨

Safe and easy patient transfers, added comfort, communication and dementia support have all been improved at Grampians Health through a generous donation of more than $16,000 from Horsham business, Cellarbrations.

Local business owner Mukesh Bhutani has once again stepped up for the community, funding much‑needed equipment across several units, including a long-awaited Sara Stedy for the Oxley acute ward.

Oxley Clinical Support Nurse Kirsten Zwar, who had been advocating for the equipment, couldn’t be happier: “The Sara Stedy makes it so much easier to lift or transfer non-ambulant patients for daily tasks like toileting or dressing and it only takes one nurse to operate it and one to ensure the patient is safe,”

Beyond the Sara Stedy, the donation has also funded:
🛏️ Two new sofa beds for Yandilla
📞 An intercom system to support Hospital‑In‑The‑Home patients
🕰️ Dementia-friendly clocks
🛋️ Pressure‑relief cushions for Wyuna sub‑acute patients

Two doses of the measles vaccine are required for best, lifelong protection.

🛡️Adults aged 20-59 years may not have received a second dose
and do not realise they are at increased risk of measles infection.

If you are over 60, you’re likely immune due to past exposure to measles in childhood, before there was widespread vaccination.

If you were born during or after 1966 and haven’t had two doses, or don't know how many you’ve had, get vaccinated. Extra doses are safe.
