Grampians Health Horsham & Dimboola Together, we are a large multi-campus organisation, but we are one unified team.

Grampians Health is the coming together of Edenhope and District Memorial Hospital, Stawell Regional Health, Wimmera Healthcare Group, and Ballarat Health Services. We share common goals and values and will work tirelessly to deliver rural and regional healthcare leadership to the communities we serve. We are a total health care provider, and have been providing quality care to the Grampians region for more than 160 years. We work to improve the health and well-being of our patients, their families, and our community - that means we care for patients and the community with a comprehensive range of general and specialist care, across every key medical and healthcare discipline, including: Acute Care, Sub-Acute Care, Residential Aged Care, Community Care, Mental Health Services and Rehabilitation Services. People aged 2 months or older who live or routinely work in high-risk areas may be eligible for a free Japanese encephalitis vaccination this mosquito season.

Warm and wet weather creates ideal breeding conditions for mosquitoes. Avoid mozzie bites by following these simple steps:
🦟Cover up with long, loose-fitting clothing
🦟Use mosquito repellents containing Picaridin or DEET on all exposed skin
🦟Mosquito-proof your home and campsite with flyscreens on doors and windows
🦟Make sure there is no stagnant water around your campsite
🦟Use ‘knockdown’ fly spray, mosquito coils or plug-in repellent where you gather to sit or eat outdoors
🦟Don’t forget the kids – always check the insect repellent label. On babies, you might need to spray or rub repellent on their clothes instead of their skin. Avoid applying repellent to the hands of babies or young children

🌻 Happy International Day of Persons with Disabilities!

Today, we come together to recognise and celebrate the contributions of people living with disabilities and reaffirm our commitment to creating an inclusive and supportive community for all.

In line with this year’s theme – fostering disability-inclusive societies for advancing social progress – Grampians Health is proud to announce that we have joined the Hidden Disabilities Sunflower Network (HDSN).

With around one in six Australians living with disability, and about 80% of those being non-visible, the sunflower initiative offers a simple and respectful way to signal when someone may need extra assistance, understanding or time.

As part of our involvement with HDSN, we will soon be introducing:

🌻 Sunflower pins for individuals who wish to discreetly indicate that they may require additional support.

🤍 White supporter pins for staff who want to show they are available to assist people with non-visible disabilities.

This initiative aligns with our Disability Action Plan and reflects our ongoing commitment to fostering a more inclusive, accessible, and understanding environment across our services and communities.

✈️ Don’t catch measles on your holiday! Make sure you’re fully vaccinated against measles before you travel overseas. 2 doses are required for best, lifelong protection. 🛡️

If you’re not sure how many doses you’ve had, see your healthcare provider at least 6 weeks before your trip to complete your measles vaccination course.

If you need two doses of the measles vaccine, these are given at least four weeks apart. It is also best to receive your final vaccine at least two weeks before you depart, to allow your body time to develop immunity. It is important to factor these timings into your travel plans.

At our 2025 Annual General Meeting (AGM), held on Wednesday, 26 November, we reflected on a year of progress in bringing care closer to home. From expanding women’s health services to upgrading infrastructure across our sites, we’re continuing to make healthcare more accessible for communities in western Victoria.

The AGM was also a chance to recognise the incredible commitment of our staff and volunteers, whose efforts help deliver better health outcomes across the region.

📢 Free sanitary products now available across all campuses!

We’re proud to support a Victorian Government initiative providing free pads and tampons across Grampians Health.

New vending machines have been installed in accessible non-gender toilets at our Ballarat, Horsham, Stawell, Dimboola and Edenhope campuses thanks to our Support Services team – helping remove barriers, reduce stress and support a more inclusive experience for everyone.

Chief Redevelopment and Infrastructure Officer Veronica Furnier said the project represented an important step toward building a more inclusive and supportive healthcare environment.

“By offering free pads and tampons in convenient locations, we’re helping to normalise menstrual health, reduce stigma and ensure that no one is placed under unnecessary stress because they don’t have access to essential products,” Veronica said.

📍Horsham – located in the toilet in the Arapiles Building near the reception desk and toilet in the main hospital next to the Day Procedure entrance.
📍Dimboola – located in the staff toilet within the facility and also the visitors’ toilet in the foyer.

November 9–15 is Perioperative Nurses Week 💙

We’re celebrating the incredible nurses who care for patients before, during, and after surgery.

Our Ballarat team celebrated in the sweetest way: with a show-stopping cake baked by Libby Fenton, one of our talented Perioperative Nurses (and clearly a master baker!). This wasn’t just any cake, it was a layered chocolate, red velvet, white chocolate and raspberry masterpiece featuring caricatures of the entire theatre team, complete with their unique scrub caps!

Libby said it best: “I like making a cake to celebrate our amazing team and give everyone a chance to enjoy the week together.”

A big thank you to Libby and all our Perioperative Nurses across campuses for their care and dedication every day. You truly make a difference!

We're proud to announce that a new scalp cooling system, also known as cold capping, is now available at Wimmera Cancer Centre.

Cold capping is a proven method to help reduce chemotherapy-related hair loss, offering many patients the chance to retain or even completely preserve their hair during treatment.

“It’s going to be a great comfort to many patients knowing they can get the cold cap treatment in Horsham now and it’s thanks to the generosity of community donations that we were able to purchase the system,” Cancer Centre Manager Carmel O’Kane said.

“Hair damage caused by chemotherapy can be alleviated by scalp cooling. It works by reducing the temperature of the scalp by a few degrees immediately before, during and after chemotherapy.

“This in turn reduces the blood flow to the hair follicles which may prevent or minimise the hair loss.

Patients having chemotherapy can request the cold capping by discussing it with their oncologist.

Thanks to a generous $115,000 donation from the Wimmera Health Care Group Foundation, our Yandilla ward at Grampians Health Horsham now has a state-of-the-art Drager neonatal ventilation unit, providing an important change for our midwives with maternity teams.

"The Drager unit has better functionality and a better interactive screen than the previous unit but more importantly it is the same cot that Ballarat’s maternity team uses,” Yandilla Nurse Unit Manager Michelle Coutts said.

“This is very important because among the team, we have several midwives who transition between the two campuses. This means from a training and education perspective there is a clear familiarity with the equipment."

“We are very grateful to the Foundation for their continued and generous support. They are providing a real comfort for both parents and our team, knowing that our babies have the best equipment possible.”

Our new website is live! 🎉

We are pleased to announce that our new Grampians Health website went live as planned on 29 October.

This site has brought together five websites (from Ballarat, Edenhope, Dimboola, Horsham and Stawell). We have also developed microsites for Research, Fundraising and Aged Care.

For the past twelve months, we have worked with community members (thank you!) from across the region to ensure we captured information in a way that makes your search as simple as possible.

However, a website is never ‘complete’. It requires constant updating and checking as information and services evolve. So, if you notice anything that doesn’t work, or doesn’t seem right (about any of the sites listed below) please let us know here: https://my.gh.org.au/43ozYNB

Today is International Project Management Day – a day to extend a heartfelt thank you to our incredible Capital Projects team.

From designing and planning to construction, the Capital Projects team (including Project Officer John Ekman pictured who drives Horsham projects) delivers critical infrastructure that allows Grampians Health to provide the best healthcare possible.

Chief Redevelopment and Infrastructure Officer Veronica Furnier said every successful health project was the result of meticulous planning, collaboration and a deep understanding of how infrastructure supports patient care.

“Our Capital Projects team not only builds facilities – it’s helping build the future of healthcare in our region and I would like to thank each and every team member for their professionalism, creativity and dedication.

“We’re proud of the projects we’re delivering as they will improve access to care, create better environments for patients and staff and strengthen our local health services for generations to come.”
