Advanced Pharmacy Australia (AdPha) The progressive voice of pharmacists and technicians built on 80 years of hospital innovation that puts people and patients first.

We are committed to enriching patient care by extending advanced pharmacy from hospitals to everywhere medicines are needed. Advanced Pharmacy Australia (AdPha - formerly The Society of Hospital Pharmacists of Australia, SHPA) is the progressive voice of Australian pharmacists and technicians, built on 80 years of hospital innovation that puts people and patients first and provides lifelong suppor

t for members. We are the national professional organisation for more than 5000 Pharmacists, Pharmacists in training, Pharmacy Technicians and associates working across Australia’s health system. AdPha is the only professional pharmacy organisation with a strong base of members practicing in public and private hospitals and other health service facilities. AdPha is committed to facilitating the safe and effective use of medicines, which is the core business of pharmacists, especially in hospitals. AdPha supports pharmacists to meet medication and related service needs, so that both optimal health outcomes and economic objectives are achieved for Australians, as individuals, for the community as a whole and for healthcare facilities within our systems of healthcare. AdPha was established in 1941 following the pioneering efforts of 25 public Hospital Pharmacists from Victoria. From 1947 to 1964 other branches were developed. The inaugural meeting of the national council and first national conference were held in Adelaide in 1961. AdPha is governed by a Federal Council which is supported by Branches and Committees of Specialty Practice. All councillors and committee members are volunteers and are elected by the membership.

We welcome legislation being introduced this week to cut the cost of PBS prescriptions from 1 January 2026, bringing co-payments down to their lowest in over 20 years.

AdPha was proud to stand alongside more than 20 health and community groups, led by The Pharmacy Guild of Australia, in a strong, united call to make medicines more affordable. https://buff.ly/NmoPpFQ

As AdPha Chief Executive Kristin Michaels said:

"Hospital pharmacists see every day how cost can be a barrier to safe, effective treatment. More affordable medicines will help keep Australians healthier and out of hospital."

Over 250,000 Australians end up in hospital each year due to preventable medication-related harm — better affordability is a key part of the solution.

Thank you to the Pharmacy Guild for their leadership and to all our partner organisations for driving this important change. This is a big step towards a healthier, fairer Australia.

At every pharmacy career stage, ANZCAP supports progress through structured reflection, meaningful feedback and recognition of real-world practice. https://buff.ly/ZDRZtHW

The building blocks of ANZCAP are Learning Experiences (LXs), bite-sized activities that are either completed alone, with a collaborator or via an endorsed third party, to record evidence of professional practice. https://buff.ly/1EwgiON

These Learning Experiences are recorded via the 'Independent Pathway' towards recognition as a Pharmacist Resident, Registrar or Consultant. https://buff.ly/1EwgiON

ANZCAP provides a platform that makes it easy for pharmacists to reflect on their experiences, describe what they learned, and how it impacted their practice. These reflections can then be shared with peers or mentors to gain structured feedback, build confidence and identify future goals and next steps.

By capturing and recognising learning this way, ANZCAP turns everyday practice into a clear, supported path for career development, allowing pharmacists to work smarter, not harder.

For Caitlan O’Keefe ANZCAP-Reg. (Generalist), the process led to valuable conversations about strengths and opportunities, and a deeper connection to her professional development.

ANZCAP is practical, empowering and fits easily in your life. It is built for what’s next.

Some connections you just can’t make over email.

For pharmacists living and working remotely, Medicines Management is more than a conference, it’s a chance to connect with peers, feel part of the national community and share the innovations shaping pharmacy across Australia. https://buff.ly/6heZmFX

This November 27-29, hundreds of pharmacists and technicians will come together in Melbourne for three days of education, inspiration and real connection at Medicines Management 2025 (MM2025).

AdPha member Katie Thomas knows exactly how valuable that is, especially when distance and life commitments can make professional connection harder to come by.

➡️ Don't miss out - early bird registration is now open! And AdPha Members save up to $500!
