Medicine 1st Year Student Post ! :))

One of the best parts of studying Medicine in Toowoomba is the people around us. The third and fourth years really look after us.

This is Noah, a fourth-year in the middle of his cardio rotation, taking time to share the best ECGs tips and tricks with us.

And it’s not just in the classroom; these same people somehow end up carrying us through social sport as well, pictured here after an exciting netball win !

There’s still time to register for this valuable session with RuralMedEd, DDWMPHN, and Health Workforce Queensland.

Whether you’re exploring IMG recruitment pathways for the first time, looking to better understand visa and onboarding processes, or already supporting IMGs within your practice, this session offers practical insights and guidance for rural and regional practices.

It’s also a great opportunity to strengthen what you’re already doing well, connect with others working in the space, and learn more about the programs and support available to benefit your practice and community.

We encourage practice managers and practice teams to join us for this informative evening.

Register now – it’s not too late!

🚁 The LifeFlight crews are a vital part of healthcare teams in rural facilities, providing critical support when it’s needed most.

A big thank you to today’s crew for taking the time to chat with our Kingaroy LongLook Griffith University medical students (on the recently opened new helipad) about the service and their aircraft. Our students are usually caring for patients inside the hospital when the crews arrive, but today they were in the middle of a neonatal resuscitation workshop - giving everyone the chance to stop, connect, and learn more about the incredible work LifeFlight does. 🚁

Attention South Burnett Junior Doctors!

Strengthening and sustaining the health workforce in the South Burnett is at the heart of the exciting developments happening across the region.

We’re proud to be working alongside the South Burnett community on a range of initiatives designed to support, grow, and retain local health workforce, creating lasting benefits for both clinicians and the community. 💪

This opportunity has been made possible through funding from the Australian College of Rural and Remote Medicine (ACRRM) Rural and Remote Community Support Grant.

This is why training matters.

Just one week after completing CPR training, one of our Griffith University medical students was out jogging when the person in front of him suddenly collapsed.

Without hesitation, he stepped up and commenced CPR until the Queensland Ambulance Service arrived, the patient required defibrillation four times.

We’re incredibly grateful to share that the patient has made a full recovery.

An outstanding effort by our student — and a powerful reminder of how lifesaving skills can make all the difference.

Well done to our highly skilled trainers, Paul and Katie, for equipping our medical students with the confidence and skills to act when it matters most.

We’re proud to share some exciting news from the South Burnett 💛

Through a partnership between Red Earth Community Foundation and Rural Medical Education Australia, the Red Earth Rural Health Pathways Fund was established in late 2025 with the vision of supporting local health professionals to access training, build skills, and continue their professional development close to home.

The fund is already creating meaningful opportunities for our rural health workforce. This simply wouldn’t be possible without the generosity and ongoing support of local businesses and community members.

Investing in our people means strengthening healthcare for our whole community, now and into the future. This week, we were able to provide fully funded training in ultrasound-guided cannulation for 20 health professionals from across the South Burnett. Medical, nursing, midwifery and medical imaging staff working in both public and private facilities came together and were very appreciative of the opportunity for local upskilling.

This advanced skill supports safer, more accurate IV access, particularly for patients with difficult veins, reducing multiple insertion attempts, improving patient comfort, and enabling faster, more effective treatment in rural settings.
