DANCE FITNESS IN THE DARK

IT’S A PITY YOU CAN’T DANCE AT THE PUBS OR CLUBS … BUT you can dance … at “Dancing in the Dark”. It’s the Funnest Fitness Ever (and it’s Covid-safe) !

Every Tuesday night we turn off the lights, turn up the retro dance hits and just boogie away our calories and stress for an hour. It’s awesome… and it’s dark, but not pitch black, more like twilight. Your eyes adjust and you can see silhouettes dancing in the hall around you so there’s no danger of collisions and it inspires you to shed any inhibitions you might have and dance like nobody’s watching. At “Dancing In The Dark” you can dress however you like and dance however you feel (no steps to learn) with no fear of being judged or hassled. If you are not a confident dancer or a snazzy dresser or in great shape it won’t matter; the darkness levels everything out. It’s a drug and alcohol (and idiot) free zone. We make sure it’s totally safe so you can just let go and enjoy.

Music wise, we play classic “definite dance” tracks from Spotify; mainly up-tempo and we aim for a little bit of everything to suit every taste. From pop, to dance, to swing, to folk, to rock, to latin, to hip-hop, to soul, to super cheesy top 40; from the 50’s to the 00’s (& a few of today’s best tracks) – those classic favourites you will probably know well. The playlist changes every week and we are happy to take your requests so you can dance to your own faves; and we promise not to play the same song more than twice a year unless we get a request for it!

Dancing is one of the very best ways to exercise (according to many studies), great fun and it’s just like meditating as you lose yourself in the music and work up a glorious sweat! Whether you’re 21 or 81, whether you're a beginner booty-shaker or someone whose “hips don’t lie”, you can dance to your own intensity level and have a breather whenever you like. This is a great space to get better acquainted with your “inner-dancer”, and this hour-long dance jam will certainly clear your mind and give you a great workout. But there's one more thing; a recent Sydney University study has concluded that dancing in the dark is great for your mental health as well. Wow so many benefits!
