In and around Dalby?

I made it! InRange Diabetes is opening up this week at Vital Health in Dalby!! We're so excited to be here! We're going to be open from Wednesday to Friday every week. Out of pocket payment for appointments is $40 when you have a gp management plan. This is open to adjustment. We would rather see you and help you for a cheaper price than have you not have specialised care. Please don't hesitate to discuss finances with us.

LAUNCH PARTY is on tomorrow at the Dalby Leagues Club at 1pm. My new CDE and I will be wearing InRange Diabetes tshirts and we'll have some diabetes stuff around us. Come and say hi! Talk diabetes or don't, ask us anything you like. Come meet your local CDE! We'll have some food/snacks available but we'd love guests to purchase coffee, drinks or lunch at their expense.

We also have some free libre continuous glucose monitors we could get on a few people to start you're tech journey, just to see how things are going, or to dip your foot into tech and see if its for you.

InRange Diabetes is a no judgement space. We are people that love to talk all things Diabetes, share experiences and help you to live a life that brings diabetes along for the ride. Diabetes doesn't need to control you or predict your mortality! Let us help you to build a better quality of life while also maintaining good blood glucose levels!

Check out our Web page to book an appointment online at our Dalby clinic or phone the number to speak to reception.

Can't wait to see you tomorrow! Anyone is welcome! Who can make it??

How's your levels today? Christmas delights were to much to resist this year, I probably should have had more control but how do you keep your levels in check when eating at family functions, without knowing the menu? Eating out when you don't know the menu?

I'm not condoning levels be uncontrolled all the time, but once in a while, its ok to not be ok. Some of us have experienced or are experiencing Diabetes "burn out" and I must say to be honest mine have been abysmal and I am starting to know the signs in myself that I am heading into a rough patch.

If you need someone to chat to or need more information, I found this page on the Australian NDSS site; https://tinyurl.com/bdzf7pt8

Hi, my name is Isabel. I am a nurse practitioner and diabetes educator and I support people with type 1 diabetes in Australia. I often deliver services bulk billed to remote locations and have recently been focussing at the south coast of NSW. A lot of people are able to use private health insurance to cover the cost of an insulin pump but unfortunately some people are not able to cover these monthly expenses. I have shared this particular ladies story with numerous community organisations in the south coast and have gotten a formal agreement that they will match the funds we are able to raise to a total of $4000. I have also gotten an agreement from the insulin pump company for a reduction of price to $8000 total. They are expensive!

We are hoping that you might be able to help with some funds towards this cause.

This lady in need is 60 years old, she has been living with diabetes for 56 years. She unfortunately has numerous comorbidities which have resulted from her diabetes and she is majorly burnt out. She is over it and she can't see a way forward at the moment. She has spent a lot of her time in the last 5 years lobbying for better access for insulin pumps to ppl that can't afford and she is so frustrated that her numerous letters never seem to make a difference.

Insulin pumps can significantly help to ease the burden of diabetes and reduce fluctuations of bg levels. The insulin pumps available today offer automation that reduces variability therefore improving people's sleep, quality of life and even their food choices, it makes their life more about living and less about the ups and downs of diabetes. These can significantly aid to improve safety for individuals as well, reducing high and low bg levels and reducing the cost of diabetes on the health care system!

If you have any spare dollars you can send towards this important cause please help. my client will also be donating what she can as she knows how important this is and how much it will help her to live better with her diabetes.

An insulin pump costs about $8000. In Australia most people with type 1 diabetes who want an insulin pump access this through their PRIVATE HEALTH INSURANCE (PHI). To be eligible for an insulin pump through PHI you need to have top hospital cover, you DO NOT need to have extras cover. All of these will also cover ambulance so you don't need a separate PHI for ambulance cover.

If you have PHI already and have type 1 diabetes or type 2 diabetes, they will cover an insulin pump! is that news to you? Even if you sign up with PHI today, you can have an insulin pump in three weeks, you do not need to wait a year until the waiting period is over. The insulin pump companies want you on a pump so they will waive the fee for a year until the private health insurance can pay. this is called BRIDGING THE GAP and anyone who is on an appropriate PHI cover, has access to this.

For children, you may be eligible for a JDRF insulin pump - the YpsoPump with CamAPS is the only pump available under this scheme.

An insulin pump can be paid for privately if funds permit. Some may see this as a better option for whatever reasons.

Any insulin pump, regardless of how it is purchased, is under warranty through the insulin pump company for four years. Within that time frame if the pump gets damaged or stops working, you get a new one from the company free of charge.

Upfront the Omnipod insulin pump may be a cheaper option but this does cost the same amount over a four year period. the cost of this can be covered monthly or through PHI. Without PHI, this would cost approximately $200 a month (note that over 4 years this would add up to $9600).

It is often challenging to speak with PHI about whether a pump is covered, they dont really understand what an insulin pump is for or what it does. If you are trying to call them some of the PHI codes for insulin pumps can help - these are MI452, AN001, II01. You dont need to call and check, but book in with a DE to discuss, we usually know which PHI covers an insulin pump and can direct you appropriately.

Send me a pm if you would like to book in to discuss of if you want to know more!
