Swallowing Awareness Day!
Today, we raise awareness for the 1 million Australians currently experiencing swallowing difficulties 💙🌍✨
What is Dysphagia?
Dysphagia is the medical term for swallowing difficulties, which can affect a person’s ability to swallow food, drink, or even saliva. For some, these difficulties are so severe that swallowing becomes impossible. Dysphagia can impact individuals with conditions such as MND, Parkinson’s Disease, Dementia, Intellectual Disability, head and neck cancer, or COPD. Considering we swallow 500-700 times a day, a dysphagia diagnosis can significantly affect a person's quality of life.
