Level 1 in Gottman Method Couples Therapy is a truly inspiring workshop, offering you new insights into treatment for couples who struggle, using research-based assessments and effective interventions.

Our practical, emotion-focused, and highly effective approach is based on Drs. John and Julie Gottman’s four decades of research with more than 3,000 couples. It is the most extensive study ever done on marital stability and divorce prediction.

In this workshop, you will be provided with a research-based roadmap for helping couples compassionately manage their conflicts, deepen their friendship and intimacy, and share their life purpose and dreams based on the Sound Relationship House Theory.

You will learn research-based strategies and tools to help couples successfully manage conflict. You will gain skills to empower partners to dialogue about their worst gridlocked issues by uncovering their underlying dreams, history, and values. You will gain tools to help couples process fights and heal their hurts, and techniques for partners to deepen their intimacy and minimize relapse.

After this workshop you will complete a quiz to gain your official Gottman Method Couples Therapy Level 1 Training Certificate as well as a CPD certificate of 12 hours.

“The minute anyone’s getting anxious I say, ‘You must eat and you must sleep.’ They’re the two vital elements for a healthy life.”

Couples & Addiction Recovery

In 2019 the National Drug Strategy Household Survey found that just under 10% of Australians reach the criteria indicative of alcohol dependence.

In the 12 months prior to the survey
- 27% of individuals identifying as female and 9.3% identifying as male reported they had been the victim of verbal abuse,
- 32% and 9.5% respectively, reported they had been victim of physical abuse, and
- 18.1% and 4.4% respectively, reported they had been put in fear,
by a current or ex-spouse or partner during an alcohol-related incident.

Supporting couples to address addiction and the impact on their relationship is complex but possible. The training program, Couples & Addiction Recovery - A Gottman Approach for Therapists, Counselors & Addiction Professionals, is a specifically designed program to ensure health professionals working in this area have the most up to date and effective training and knowledge when working in this area.

Being near the beach can prompt a sense of gratefulness for many people. Attending to the sensation of the air in your lungs, seeing the pleasant colours and textures, and noticing the peaceful sounds can enrich this experience even more.

Further, the process and feeling of gratefulness - being thankful and appreciative - is also associated with several mental and physical health benefits. Some of the benefits of gratitude from the research include:

Better sleep
Better immunity
Higher self esteem and self worth
Decreased stress
Lower blood pressure
Less anxiety and depression
Stronger relationships
Higher levels of optimism
Greater life satisfaction

If this hearing helps you today, I am grateful.

Quote and reflection

“The way we relate to ourselves shapes the way we relate to others,”

- Dr Daniel J Siegel

There is a deep connection between how we view ourselves and how we approach others. When we work to be kind, thoughtful, reassuring and accepting to ourselves (which understandably can be tough as it is not the default view of most human minds), we are more likely to extend curiosity, empathy and understanding to others. If we are hard on ourselves, or critical or inaccurate in our perceptions, we can take these views toward others. Self reassurance and self compassion are not only helpful for personal growth and wellbeing, but also assist us to build meaningful and fulfilling connections with others.
