Life with Endometriosis Life with Endometriosis raises awareness by making endometriosis visible. Shown internationally, pub Join the journey with me, Margaret Kalms.

When women with endometriosis agree to participate, I will listen to their story, ideas and feelings and express them through photography. My photography will raise awareness of endometriosis by producing:
• a collection of art photographs for exhibition/s that depict women’s experiences of living with endometriosis.
• an art book that includes the photographs and selections of the stories and experiences of women living with endometriosis. You can see more of my art photograph and ideas at www.artofwoman.com.au. Life with Endometriosis is supported by Canberra Endometriosis Centre and Women's Centre for Health Matters.

Provision of women's toilets have usually been insufficient. Nearly everywhere we go, we have to queue, often with a long wait, while the men go in and out without any delay. While buildings may give women the same area as men, their needs are such that it takes women longer and we have more to do. The result is that we need about double the area as men to gain the same effortless access to a toilet.
This article spells the issues for women very well.

What a wonderful expo! Such an energetic buzz! I showed 33 images from ‘Life with Endometriosis’ collection. It was almost overwhelming to be surrounded by so many images depicting the experiences of people who suffer with endometriosis. So many different impacts, so many deeply personal stories. Many people said that some of the images truely resonated with their ordeals and gave a human face to endometriosis symptoms.
The speakers came from a variety of disciplines and were very informative.
A great day. Thank you Jess Mac Gowan and her team and QENDO for hosting a wonderful day!

Introducing Melissa Parker, expert guest speaker at Endometriosis and Pelvic Pain Expo held at Exhibition Centre, Canberra on 22March. She is Coordinator and Researcher at Canberra Endometriosis Centre, Canberra Health Services.
https://www.qendo.org.au/events/cbrexpo
For over 10 years Melissa Parker has been investigating the impacts of endometriosis. She has developed an exciting but easy to use assessment tool that can help with diagnosis - PIPPA (Period ImPact and Pain Assessment) screening for period pain in online communities and primary health. PIPPA has the potential to alert young people when things are not normal. It can even write a letter to show a Dr so people can be treated before severe damage has happened.Melissa Parker has encouraged my art and advocacy. I’m thrilled that she is speaking at this event.

Life with Endometriosis photo books have been printed all bright and gorgeous! Copies will be available at Booth 1, Endometriosis and Pelvic Pain Expo on Sat 22 March at Exhibition Park, Canberra. https://www.qendo.org.au/events/cbrexpo
Life with Endometriosis is a unique response to a debilitating illness. Ordeals of chronic pain, missed opportunities, misunderstanding and neglect are heartbreaking. Many sufferers have debilitating symptoms and it is currently an incurable disease.
Margaret Kalms listened to the experiences of women living with endometriosis and photographed 17 of them. Her provocative photo-art images, provide a powerful, illuminating and validating expose of the impacts of living with endometriosis.
Margaret’s images are conceptual and express deep, very human emotions. They capture some of the pain, stress and brutality of this shocking illness, so validate and affirm how women living with endometriosis felt.
Life with Endometriosis is a great communication tool for women with endometriosis. This book communicates to ordinary people using imagery inspired by quotes from women with endometriosis. People can easily relate to the symptoms described and can check out more detailed facts with suggested web links.

March is endometriosis awareness month. The colours of endometriosis, green and purple, are featured in my image 'Body Painted With Light', published in March edition of Artist's Down Under magazine. I enjoy playing with how colours and light fall across a body, enhancing contours and forms. A bright emerald green replaces the highlights and a soft purple wraps around the shadow areas of the reclining female figure. There is a bright red rose discretely nestled on her pelvic area. https://issuu.com/athaliet/docs/artists_down_under_-_australia_and_new_zealand_-_m/97
