When I see peas in their pods, I'm instantly back in Nana's kitchen, a big bowl between us as we shelled them for dinner. I love that simple memory.

And the peas? Some didn't make it into the bowl for dinner. Their sweet crunch too much temptation.

Turns out they're definitely little circles of goodness:

🫛 rich in fibre to support digestion and hormone health
🫛 good source of plant protein
🫛 full of Vitamin C, K and folate
🫛 antioxidants to support immunity and your eyes

Whether you eat them raw, lightly steamed, still frozen (who else loves frozen peas?), or thrown in a slow cooker at the end, peas bring a lovely bright sweetness and a nutritious hit to many dishes.

Try them like this:
🔸️add to salads for crunch and coloyr
🔸️toss into soups, curries, stews or any slow cooked for extra fibre and protein
🔸️blend into a pea and mint dip
🔸️stir through scrambled eggs or omelets
🔸️smash lightly with a drizzle of olive oils and lemon as a quick, delicious side dish

Peas remind us that small things can be powerful, just like memories made with Nana 💚

There must be hundreds of recipes for garlic prawns but sometimes cooking by feel (and taste) works a treat. This dish was created not by following a recipe but by using up a few ingredients hanging around in the fridge or growing in pots on the balcony. Not the prawns, of course - they were fresh 😆

Garlic 🧄
Cream🍶
Tomato paste 🍎
Half an onion🧅
Garlic chives🌱
Dilll🌿
A splash of dry vermouth 🍾
Fresh prawns🦐

That's dinner done for a Saturday evening 😋

It's not often we eat out for breakfast when in Canberra, but when we do, we try to choose a healthy option.

Breakfast sets the tone for the whole day ahead, so why not start strong with a breakfast that nourishes your body. This plate is packed with scrambled eggs, ham, a sweet potato fritter, greens and tomato. It's loaded with a good portion of protein, antioxidants and Vitamin C, all essential nutrients. Plus, the sweet potato adds a boost of fiber.

Why is this the best way to start your day?

Because a balanced breakfast keeps your energy steady, your brain sharp, your mood lifted and stabilises your blood sugar, giving you a steady metabolism. Don't just think about food as eating – it’s about giving your body what it needs to thrive.

Feeling sluggish or foggy by mid-morning or lunchtime? It could be what you’re missing out on at breakfast.

Make every breakfast count at home, plus when out and about.

Better health doesn’t have to be so hard. What’s your go-to breakfast to kickstart your day?

When I was a kid (a long, long time ago) Sunday night dinners were mostly comfort dishes, sitting in front of the TV watching Disneyland.

I fondly remember Mum's Cottage Pie made with beef mince and lashings of butter on the potato.

We still love Cottage Pie 😍

You know that feeling when it's Sunday night and you can't be bothered with another meal idea?

Enter the humble boiled egg 🥚 😋

1. Pop on the eggs to boil.
2. Make up a quick and simple poke type bowl with what's in your fridge.
3. Whip together a quick curry sauce with a dollop of peanut butter for a satay flavour.
5. Peel the eggs and halve.
4. A handful of peanuts or cashews add extra protein if on hand.
5. Garnish with fresh herbs and fried shallots for crunch.
6. Make enough for leftover lunch because you love to think ahead 👌

Dinner!

Have you ever wondered why those little tricks you used to do when younger to maintain a healthy weight just don't work any more?

So frustrating!

What's your biggest gripe when it comes to your metabolism?

With me, it was a combination of meal timing and sleep. A combination of circadian rhythms affecting metabolism.

As women, our metabolism does change as we age and is definitely affected during certain life stages such as peri and post menopause.

If you're feeling tired, struggling with weight fluctuations, experiencing digestive issues, not sleeping or battling mood swings, you don't have to grin and bear it. These could be signs of an imbalanced metabolism🥴

Protein is the most neglected macro on many plates.

Could this be overkill with poached egg, flaked salmon, and quinoa? I don't think so 🤔 Perfect combo for breakfast, lunch or dinner.

Don't be afraid of mixing different proteins for an extra energy boost, longer satiety, no cravings and blood glucose balance.

We used a rich hollandaise dressing here, but for something quick and simple, try balsamic or a honey/grainy mustard. 😋

I've been an MB Practitioner now for four years and, hands down, it's the most effective way I've seen for women to get back control of their health and their metabolism.

If everything you've tried before to lose weight and regain your health just hasn't worked or doesn't last, then the Metabolic Balance nutritional and weight loss program is perfect for you.

The foods prescribed on your personalised Plan are chosen for the exact chemistry needs for your body to regain health. This is done by examining 37 different blood markers from a simple blood test. That's why the Metabolic Balance Program works - because it's a completely individualised nutritional plan just for your body and for your metabolic needs.

You learn about foods that are specific for your body, about portion sizes relevant to keep you satiated and about eating in a way that nourishes your body so you go about your day without hunger, without constantly thinking about eating and with plenty of energy.

And, you'll carry this knowledge forever. That means no more fad diets, no more shakes, no meal replacements, no hunger, ever again.

Just real foods forever.

You won't be doing this alone. I will be there throughout your personalised weight loss plan, every step of the way. Reach out if you'd like to chat about changing your relationship with food.

One of the best things about the Mediterranean Diet is the seafood. But, I think the reason it's such a healthy way of eating is because of the extra virgin olive oil.

It's a health bomb and we love drizzling it on so many different foods.

The combination of monounsaturated fat and polyphenols makes olive oil one of the healthiest foods on the planet. The word "virgin" means the oil has been extracted mechanically rather than chemically (like seed and vegetable oils). It's simply olive juice, retaining the full flavour and all the healthy benefits. "Extra virgin" means the oil comes from good quality olives and has no additives and has then been stored correctly. Also look for "cold pressed".

As the price of olive oil rises because of the long standing drought in Spain, be very particular about the olive oil you purchase as some commercial brands use chemical extraction methods of solvents and dilute the oil using cheaper vegetable oils to make it go further.

This is one food where you don't want to look for a bargain. Invest in your health.😎

Here's one simple tweak you can make at your next meal that can make a BIG difference to your energy, satiety and metabolism efficiency.

PROTEIN - Protein helps you feel full for longer and reduces hunger. This works in your favour by preventing overeating and reaching for food in between meals. Having enough protein stabilises blood sugar levels and prevents spikes and crashes in your energy levels.

It's time to add protein to your plate at every meal, such as lean meats, fish, eggs, legumes, soy, mushrooms and dairy products! 🙌

I'm sure you know that old proverb "an apple a day keeps the doctor away". But, do you know why?

No other fruit can compare to what's inside an apple. It provides vitamins, minerals, fibre and pectin and can help lower cholesterol and uric acid plus support the excretion of harmful metabolic waste products.

Adding sliced apple to this vegetable bake had a surprising result. It was delicious! The apple was soft and sweet and lifted the whole dish to a new level.
