Blackburn Public Surgical Centre The site joined Eastern Health in 2022 and has been providing quality healthcare to patients from the eastern suburbs and surrounds since 1970.

Previously known as Bellbird Private Hospital and operated by Healthscope, Blackburn Public Surgical Centre is a 53 bed medical and surgical facility providing general surgery and gynaecological services.

Only two months after the announcement, Blackburn Public Surgical Centre is now fully operational having opened its doors to the first few patients on the 10th of October.

Sarah, the Nurse Unit Manager, is excited to get back into surgical.

"It doesn't matter whether they're public or private patients, they're still patients, so they still need to be cared for. And I think COVID has had a massive impact on surgical patients lists being put on hold, so I think that's thrilling really, that we can help these patients finally get their surgery."

Thanks to all our amazing and agile Eastern Health staff who have made this possible and a warm welcome to our new Blackburn teams.

Thanks for doing the impossible, and for making so much possible. This Mother’s Day we celebrate the extraordinary strength, resilience and love of mothers and mothering-figures of all kinds everywhere. We also take a take a quiet moment to keep close those who are missing a mum or motherhood itself today.

Have a special Mother’s Day.

ANZAC DAY 2022
At the going down of the sun and in the morning. We will remember them.

Together today we solemnly commemorate those who have served and died in wars, conflicts, and peacekeeping operations. We pause to think of those who have served who work or have worked with us, and all who cared for the sick and injured at home and abroad, especially those who gave their lives in that service.

We wish a very happy Easter to all celebrating this special feast. To those working through the public holiday period in our hospital and elsewhere serving the community - our deep appreciation, especially for the time it takes away from your own families and loved ones. For all those who are having a break, stay safe and enjoy.

We wish new year happiness and prosperity to all who are celebrating the Lunar New Year today and our best for celebrations through to the Lantern Festival.

Each year has an animal sign in the Chinese Zodiac, which is based on the moon and a 12-year cycle. There is also a cycle of five elements – wood, fire, earth, metal and water. 2022 brings the year of the Water Tiger and with that, we will leave you with a Chinese Proverb to welcome the Lunar New Year.

“Do not be afraid of moving slowly. Be afraid of standing still.”
