Money is one of the biggest sources of stress people carry, yet it’s often the least talked about in our workplaces… 🧠💰

At Mental Health Movement, we regularly see how financial pressure quietly impacts mental health, relationships, focus, sleep, confidence and overall wellbeing. Financial stress doesn’t stay at home, it walks into work with us every day!

That’s why we developed our “Mind Over Money” Financial Wellbeing Workshops. Facilitated by our Financial Specialist

These sessions are designed to go beyond numbers and budgets. We explore the psychology behind money, how our beliefs, habits and behaviours influence the way we earn, spend, save and cope during challenging times.

The goal isn’t to turn people into financial experts.

The goal is to give people clarity, confidence and practical tools so money feels more manageable, not overwhelming.

Through this workshop participants learn to:

✔️ Understand the link between financial stress and mental health
✔️ Recognise emotional and behavioural patterns around money
✔️ Build healthier financial habits aligned with their values
✔️ Reduce stress through practical, realistic strategies

Importantly, education is only one piece of the puzzle.

When organisations combine financial wellbeing education with access to financial planning, professional advice and counselling support, we see stronger outcomes, not just financially, but psychologically.

People feel supported, empowered, and more in control of their future.

Financial wellbeing isn’t just a personal issue, it’s a workplace wellbeing issue.

And when we support people in this space, we’re not just helping them manage money better… we’re helping them think clearer, sleep better and show up better in every area of life.

This is why we do what we do.

Workplaces are under pressure, and psychosocial risk isn’t going away.

Across industries, we’re seeing the same challenges emerge:

➡️ Leaders trying to manage increasing workload, change and uncertainty

➡️ Teams experiencing stress, fatigue, burnout and disengagement

➡️ Organisations wanting to “do more” for mental health, but unsure where to start

➡️ Support systems in place, yet low utilisation of traditional EAP models

The reality is this:

Psychosocial risk management, culture, and connection to support cannot be treated as separate conversations. They need to work together as one ecosystem.

Mental Health Movement Pty Ltd our approach is built around three practical pillars that create a complete, best-practice framework regardless of your organisation’s size or industry.

🔹 Pillar 1: Compliance - Supporting organisations to meet legislative obligations through proactive psychosocial risk management. Identify hazards. Assess risk. Implement practical controls that protect people and performance.

🔹 Pillar 2: Culture - Building mentally healthy workplace cultures through leadership capability, awareness, education and practical training, moving beyond awareness into behavioural change.

🔹 Pillar 3: Connection - Making support accessible and relatable through MHM Connect (Powered by Replenish) and peer support programs, because when EAP uptake is low, connection and trusted pathways matter more than ever.

When these three pillars work together, organisations create:

✔️ Safer and healthier workplaces
✔️ Stronger leadership capability
✔️ Increased engagement and trust
✔️ Real access to support, not just policies on paper

This is what best practice looks like, an integrated ecosystem that protects people while strengthening culture and performance.

Because mentally healthy workplaces aren’t built from one workshop or one initiative. They’re built through aligned systems, consistent leadership, and meaningful connection.

NEW WHITEPAPER | Psychosocial Risk Management Within Construction

Construction is high-risk, physically and psychologically.

Long shifts. Tight deadlines. Remote sites. High pressure environments.

Psychosocial hazards are part of daily life in construction and regulators are paying closer attention to how organisations manage them.

We’ve just released our latest whitepaper:A Practical Guide to Effective Psychosocial Risk Management in Construction.

Inside, we explore:

• The current state of mental health in construction
• Key psychosocial hazards impacting the sector
• A practical framework to implement a Psychosocial Risk Management Program (PRMP)
• Industry-specific control measures to reduce risk exposure

Because building safer sites means protecting mental health too.

Last week, our MHM Master Facilitator Robbie Hardy commenced quarterly support calls with the trained peer supporters at HVO Mining in the Hunter Valley.

These team members play a vital role on site. Trained in Mental Health First Aid, they are not there to “fix” anyone, they are there to listen, notice early warning signs and guide colleagues toward appropriate professional support when needed.

But effective peer support doesn’t happen by chance.

Through our ‘Best Practice’ Workplace Champions Peer Support Program, we work with organisations to thoughtfully assess, select and train the right people for the role. We then provide structured, ongoing supervision and quarterly support to ensure peer supporters remain both confident and capable.

The impact?
• Real conversations
• Early intervention• Increased confidence to seek support• Professional help accessed sooner • A practical control for psychosocial risks

When peer support is designed intentionally and embedded properly, it strengthens mental health capability from within. Creating a strategy that is not only meaningful, but sustainable.

We’re proud to continue our partnership with Sydney Trains, supporting their Trains, Crewing and Stations business units through their Mental Health Ambassadors Program.

This is an organisation that operates in a high-pressure and high-responsibility environment. They all face real-world challenges every day. That’s why investing in mental health capability and peer support is so important.

It’s a pleasure to work alongside their Mental Health Ambassadors, people who step up to better support their colleagues and contribute to a mentally healthier workplace.

At MHM, we’re passionate about equipping ambassadors with practical skills, confidence and frameworks to support their workforce in the work they do every day.

Huge credit to Sydney Trains for backing their people and prioritising mental health where it matters most. We’re excited to keep building momentum together. 💪

Workshops and training are about giving people the confidence and guidance to take the first step to seeking support when they need it.

Sometimes that first step is the hardest part. Awareness, guidance and connection can make it possible and sometimes it changes everything. 💛

Resilience is lifting the weight when life hits hard.
Mental fitness is the daily training that prepares you for it.

It’s the small habits, mindset shifts, emotional regulation, and support systems built before things get tough that make the biggest difference.

One simple mental rep to start: take 60 seconds to check in with yourself each morning. How you’re feeling, what you need and one thing that would help today.

Training the mind deserves the same attention as training the body.

Leaders often think their team feels safe, but the reality can be different.

Quiet meetings, staff hesitating to ask questions, ideas left unsaid, or avoidance of difficult conversations can all be signs that psychological safety may not be fully present.

Psychological safety widely known as “the belief that one won’t be punished or humiliated for speaking up with ideas, questions, concerns, or mistakes and that the team is safe for interpersonal risk-taking” (Edmondson, 1999).

We want to hear from you. Do you feel safe speaking up at work?

As the new year begins, we’re reflecting on the impact created across workplaces last month in December 🤝

Each result represents conversations started, skills strengthened and practical steps taken towards safer, healthier and more mentally supportive work environments.

We look forward to continuing this work as the year unfolds.

Our Story

Mental Health Movement is the brainchild of former NRL player Dan Hunt. Dan’s impressive sporting career spanned over nine years culminating in his 150th game played for the St George Illawarra Dragons. During his career as a professional athlete, he struggled with and overcome many adversities.

Using the power of personal story and lived experience to break down the stigma which stops people seeking help for mental health issues, MHM focusses on driving change by altering society’s perception of mental health issues and those struggling with them.

After receiving a Type 2 Bipolar Disorder in 2010, Dan using his own life experiences and determination to help others is what inspired the creation of Mental Health Movement and led to Dan’s further study in Mental Health, Community Services, Mental Health First Aid and Mental Health Response, Alcohol and Other Drugs (AOD), Fitness, Business and Career Development.

Through the unique approach of connection, using the power of story, the Mental Health Movement aims to help improve mental health outcomes for individuals and workplaces through delivering their evidence based, researched backed and clinically validated Mental Health Workplace Blueprint, consisting of four stages awareness, education, training and resources.
