"There will be times when we feel stuck, overwhelmed, or unmotivated—and that’s okay. In those moments, even a small step, like reaching out to someone or pausing for a moment, can help us get back on track. These small actions help us keep moving forward, even when it doesn’t feel like we’re making much progress.
Let’s embrace the steps we’ve already taken and remember that every effort counts. No matter how slow things seem, we’re still moving forward. This Mental Health Month let’s keep looking after our wellbeing and support each other along the way." - https://hubs.li/Q03Ls3WG0

This week the residents at Jesmond Grove found a creative and colourful way to celebrate International Day of Peace.
While this year's theme is 'Act Now for a Peaceful World', this group opted to wear their best bright boas and grooviest gear for a day, choosing peace above all else.

What a doll
It was after her mum moved to Jesmond Grove and left her with a collection of scrap fabric, buttons, ribbon and lace, that Sally first became obsessed with making Scrappy Dolls.
The stuffed toys were an attempt to reduce landfill, fuelled by a passion for sustainability and upcycling.
"The Scrappy Dolls used a lot of materials that I had in my stash, and the stuffing for the dolls I sourced from op shops, or by purchasing throw cushions," Sally says.
While she is yet to sell any of the dolls, Sally has thoroughly enjoyed making them and giving one to each of the residents at Jesmond Grove.
Thanks Sally, we love them too.

Art from the Heart
Participants at East Lake Macquarie Dementia Service (ELMDS) enjoyed a Creative Clay session recently.
It is widely accepted that working with clay offers many health benefits.
A multi-sensory, non-verbal form of expression, clay work can offer significant benefits to individuals with dementia by reducing stress, improving mood, and enhancing self-esteem.
By the look of some of these smiles, I'd say it's a lot of fun too!

Ahoy there me Mateys
If yeed docked ye ship at Toronto last week, ye might have thought yeed landed in another time and place as the residents and staff at Kilpatrick Court celebrated International Talk Like a Pirate Day.
While the motley crew were committed to sharing their worst Pirate jokes, pirate-themed bingo and board games meant residents became one of the shipmates too.
With any luck they found some hidden treasure!

"She's strong and witty, loves a good romance and action film, and all things Australian" - that's how friends at CA Brown describe the now 100-year-old Joan.
Celebrating with her family at a beautiful luncheon last week, Joan was thrilled to receive a letter from King Charles 111, Prime Minister Anthony Albanese and many local Members of Parliament.
And, the question everyone wants to know - what is her secret to a long life?
"I don't know, I think I was always a good person that didn't smoke." Joan says.
Happy 100th birthday Joan 🎈🎂🎁🎉

What do dads, the 70s and classic cars have in common? well, I guess it depends on who you ask.
For some residents at CA Brown it was a perfect match.
While classic shiny beauties with four wheels showed off their best features in the carpark, some team members brought colour to the day by wearing their grooviest fluro wear.
Either way there was plenty to smile about.

'Do the shake, the milkshake, do the shake' 🥤🥤🥤🕺🕺🕺
Alkira participants enjoyed a round of milkshakes for ‘National Chocolate Milkshake Day’ on Friday.
We think any day is a good day for a milkshake!
Did you know ⁉️
The term 'milkshake' first appeared in print in 1885 when it was thought to be an alcoholic beverage. Blending eggs, whiskey, and other ingredients, Pharmacies began serving the drink as a tonic to treat ill customers. It wasn't until the 1900s that it began being served with milk, chocolate, strawberry, or vanilla syrup and eventually ice-cream.

What a zoo-perb day in Merewether!
There were smiles all round as Scenic Lodge combined R U Ok?Day with a family day, barbecue and petting zoo visit this week.
And, while the mild spring weather meant activities moved indoors sooner than expected, they also made the cuddles feel even warmer.
Thanks Sweet Valley Baby Animals & Produce Co. for sharing your family with ours for a day.

Today, as an organisation, we joined tens of thousands of people across Australia pausing to connect, reflect, and ask, 'are you OK?'
By sharing the RUOK? message we commit to encouraging more life changing conversations, not only on R U OK?Day but every day.
10/09/2025
Today is R U OK? Day, a day dedicated to building the motivation, confidence and skills to be an effective help-giver – a person who can have a meaningful conversation with someone who is struggling with life.
At Anglican Care, we are committed to helping one another flourish, including the people we support.
Today we are reminded to check in on one another, to offer meaningful connection, and start a conversation that could save a life.

You might be mistaken for thinking it's warm-up time for the next FIFA World Cup ⚽⚽⚽
The truth is it's beachball soccer finals at Kilpatrick Court, with several contenders in the running for selection.
Although we may need to revise the 'no-hands' ruling, each participant was reported as maintaining a high level of sportsmanship and laughter, making this a truly memorable event.

In 1956, life moved at a gentler pace. People seemed to have more time for each other, their family and friends. However, the Anglican Church of Newcastle recognised that many older members of the community left to fend for themselves were in need of care and support.
In that moment, Anglican Care was born.
The first Anglican Care facility was established at Booragul and for anyone living on the western side of Lake Macquarie, the CA Brown Retirement Village became a prominent landmark on the long and winding road to Newcastle.
For many, it became a new home where they would live out their retirement years in peace, comfort and security. They were cared for by staff who, more likely than not, were locals themselves, adding to the shared sense of community.
The Anglican faith-based values of genuine care, respect and compassion for others flowed naturally into the values of the new organisation and Anglican Care quickly developed a reputation for delivering the highest standards of aged care.
More than 60 years on, there are now 12 Anglican Care facilities across the Mid Coast, Hunter and Central Coast, with more to come. Like the original Booragul village, they’re all very much a part of their community, providing local care, comfort and support to local people.
We now provide a complete range of services from community and home care to retirement living, residential and palliative care. We’ve applied our experience and expertise in these areas to develop and implement, innovative award-winning care programs.
But as much as we appreciate being recognised as a leader in aged care, the real reward comes from helping our residents and consumers to stay actively connected and engaged with life.
Which is the whole point, really.
Because while the world might change, our culture of care never will.
We’ll always be committed to the ideal that life is precious… and that every moment matters.
