If you know me - you know that rural Australia is very close to my heart - farmers particularly.
This is heartbreaking. Please listen. Please try to understand.

And this is why I will continue to question the Gov about their taxes. Where the hell is the Ag Minister with the help? Their conduct disgusts me.

There is a lot in media about the plight of farmers at the moment and the current drought. I was born in a drought and when it eventually rained I ran inside crying as the “sky was falling”. In the 90s we showered in blue algae dam water for 30 seconds. I can still smell it. Droughts are tough. Farmers are tougher. To anyone struggling with this drought and what it means - please listen to spud - a bear on 90 year old man that shows you, you can get through this - and you will. Don’t do it alone.

“Mum, a kid at school said that if I did something that I really didn’t feel comfortable doing, then they’d give me the footy card I really want”

What would your advice to your kid be?

It astounds and disgusts me that politics is drenched in the exact opposite of what we are trying to teach our kids. It is full of back door trades, deals, bullying, condescension, people abandoning their values to grab a better deal. It is absolutely deplorable.

And that is exactly what happened with the emergency services levy. People sold out their values to grab a better “footy card”. But in doing that, that footy card will begin the cascade of severe mental illness, financial ruin and I really hope not - but potential su***de. One thing they didn’t predict is the human spirit and the ability of rural born people to band together when the chips are falling.

So as these politicians that back door agreed to this bill go about their day with their families - I wonder what their advice to their kids would be. I highly doubt it would be “take the footy card”. I wonder if the parents that took part in this go home and say “yes love it’s ok to treat people this way”. I doubt that either.

So why the hell is it ok to conduct yourself like this when you are meant to be serving and supporting the public of who pays you.

One would think a lot of politicians merely go into the role as a way to serve their egos.

Back during Rona I ran a “random act of kindness” drive, where near on 300 gifts were shared randomly around Australia. Tonight I ask my Horsham people for help in another act of kindness - this time it isn’t random - it’s for our beautiful Marie Claude. Marie Claude has fallen on tough times with her health and we are seeking to ease the load with a good old casserole or two.
