๐ŸŒŸ Free Online Webinar: 'Supporting School Transitions for Neurodivergent Children' ๐ŸŒŸ

Parents, caregivers and educators alike often face the conundrum that is navigating change with their child. Whilst valuable for all children, this can be particularly helpful to consider within the context of neurodiversity, such as a child with Autism.

Whilst many new environments can be managed, there comes a time when children will face situations that may be intrinsically challenging for them. The transition to starting school or from one a year level to another are perfect examples of this.

๐ŸŒŸ Join us for a free, online webinar designed to give you insight, tools, and confidence to better support a child through big transitions.๐ŸŒŸ

This webinar will be presented by our Managing Director and Psychologist, Jessie Baker. Jessie has obtained a Master of Clinical Psychology and has Post-Graduate Certificate in Autism Studies. She has also worked for the best part of a decade with neurodiverse children and adults including diagnostic testing, skill-building and support, and providing training and education in this area.

๐Ÿ“… WHEN: Wednesday the 15th of October at 12:30pm (allow for approx. 30 mins).
๐Ÿ’ป WHERE: Online (video link provided upon registration)

๐Ÿ”‘ What youโ€™ll learn:
โœ… The psychology behind transitions and planning.
โœ… Key considerations for planning and preparing your child.
โœ… Practical strategies to support and manage their transitions.

๐Ÿ“ Telehealth Services (Online)

Moujan is a warm, approachable clinician who brings a client-focused and collaborative approach to her therapeutic work with individuals and families across the lifespan (including children, adolescents & adults)!

Using a variety of evidence-based frameworks, Moujan offers flexible and compassionate care to her her clients. Her approach is strengths-based and neurodiverse-affirming in nature, and she enjoys collaboration with clients and their families to tailor services to their unique needs, goals and preferences. Moujan is passionate about building strong therapeutic alliances and empowering clients to improve their emotional wellbeing and quality of life.

โœจ Moujan is interested in how different platforms, client interests, and innovations can enhance the therapeutic process - making therapy accessible and engaging for the individual and generalising learnings in accordance with their strengths and preferences. From developing psychology skills through creative activities (which the kids tend to love!) through to collaboration and incorporation of a client's broader support team (e.g., NDIS services) - Moujan's approach is truly person-centred.

After 4 years with Ability (preceded by 4 years or tertiary education in psychology) and passing the National Psychology Exam, Moujan is in the final stages of her provisional pathway as a psychologist! This means that in the not-too-distant future, Moujan anticipates expanding her availability to different referral pathways. At the moment, Moujan welcomes referrals privately, under the NDIS and EAP referrals and has immediate availability for new clients.

Outside of work, you will find Moujan enjoying quality time with loved ones, doing one of several creative hobbies or gaming! ๐ŸŽฎ

๐Ÿ’ฌ "They were fine all day, yet at home they completely unravel.." ๐Ÿ’ฌ

Today we're talking about masking - a well-documented but often misunderstood experience amongst neurodivergent individuals. In neurodivergent young people, masking may be somewhat harder to distinguish - after all, a child's development can be as varied as it is nuanced! ๐ŸŒŸ

๐Ÿ’ก In Moujan's recent blog post, she explores what masking is, how it can look in children, why it happens, and how to support children who may be masking more than they let on. Whether youโ€™re a parent, teacher, or support professional, this article may offer practical insights to better support and understand neurodivergent young people.

๐ŸŒŸResilience๐ŸŒŸ from a psychological perspective, is far more than simply โ€œbouncing backโ€ from hardship. It is the capacity to learn, adapt, and grow through lifeโ€™s challenges using internal strengths and external supports.

Psychologists view resilience not as a fixed personality trait, but as a developable mindset and skills; shaped by emotional regulation, problem-solving abilities, supportive relationships, and the resources available in a person's environment.

In our latest blog, our psychologist Bhargav shares practical, evidence-based strategies to help children and young people develop resilience!

๐ŸŒฟ Meet Georgie - Team Leader & Clinician at Ability
๐Ÿ“ North Lakes, QLD
๐ŸŒฟ Increased availability from September 2025!

Georgie is our incredible team leader and a valued clinician at Ability. She brings a warm, collaborative and person-centred approach to her work with clients of all ages - from children through to adults.

After approx. 3.5 years with Ability, weโ€™re so proud to share that Georgie is nearing the completion of her provisional pathway (what a journey)!! This exciting milestone is an absolute achievement and is preceded by several years of tertiary education in psychology, followed by thousands of hours of supervised practice under Board-Approved Supervisors. To provide more context here - these are components of the requirements an individual must meet to apply to become a generally registered psychologist in Australia - that is a minimum of 6 years of education/training including supervised practice and a National Psychology Exam (just to name a few). Georgie herself has spent the best part of 8 years studying and training in the field of psychology and is THRILLED to be approaching this huge milestone.

Before psychology, Georgie has a background in both community mental health and the not-for-profit sector, having worked alongside hospitals and acute teams to support patients transitioning back into the community. Georgie has worked for many years in not-for-profit settings and in community mental health teams which helped to develop her knowledge of different systems and frameworks that people are faced with, and of course, her person-centred approach.

Georgie has some availability in clinic (including limited late appointment options - 4/4:30pm) and is anticipated to begin accepting an increased range of referrals in the coming months! ๐ŸŒฟ

Georgie is passionate about supporting emotional wellbeing through frameworks that are:๏ฟฝ
โœ”๏ธ Trauma and attachment-informed.๏ฟฝ
โœ”๏ธ Neurodiversity-affirming.๏ฟฝ
โœ”๏ธ Strengths-based & flexible to individual needs.

And outside of the clinic? Youโ€™ll likely find her at the beach or spending quality time with her family and her much-loved dog. ๐Ÿพ๐ŸŒŠ

โœ”๏ธ Guided by collaboration and a deep respect for each clientโ€™s unique experiences, preferences, and goals.
โœ”๏ธ Grounded in trauma-informed, attachment-focused and strengths-based principles.

Geoff particularly enjoys working with a clientโ€™s personal values in his work to help people to build their psychological flexibility by accepting difficult thoughts and feelings instead of fighting them, and then committing to actions that align with their personal values.
