"The 5 days midwife support at GC Private I truely believe is what set me up for successfully breastfeeding. Every midwife that came into the room during feeds or when buzzed for support gave advice that perfectly scaffolded where I was at with my breastfeeding journey, with a small tweak here and there to improve. I never felt inadequate, advice was always delivered with a positive to start and then a tip to improve. I still tell myself “shoulders down” at every feed!!" - Jacqui Stone.

If you'd like to share your breastfeeding journey for World Breastfeeding Week, send us a DM with a pic before August 8.

Breastfeeding is a journey not everyone can, or chooses to embark on. But for those who do, it is often a story of duality. It can feel simultaneously suffocating and satisfying; bring both great joy and deep frustration; conjure feelings of connection (to your baby) and disconnection (to the rest of the world).

Whatever your journey, we'd love to hear it. Send us a DM of your breastfeeding story, with a pic, and we'll share it on our pages to celebrate World Breastfeeding Week.

Our guest of honour today was Gold Coast Mum Rochelle Evrard.

Rochelle knows the devastation of infant loss first-hand after losing her six-day old baby, Milli, in 2023.

After her second baby, Huey, was born healthy at Gold Coast Private Hospital in May this year, Rochelle wanted to do something for other families who are forced to walk the same devastating path she did.

“I know what it’s like to not be able to breathe,” she said.

“For your heart to hurt so much that your chest feels suffocatingly heavy. I know how hard it is to know what to do during that time.

“These Baby Loss Packs are a guide to help people who are too traumatised to make decisions or know where to next. It’s my way of helping people know they are seen, they are held and they are walking a path that no-one should have to, but that they are not walking alone.”

Rochelle raised funds for her packs through her charity, Little Life Big Loss, and included books, anxiety necklaces and resources. The packs are being distributed in honour of what would have been Milli’s second birthday.

When our maternity manager Judy heard Rochelle was coming, she wanted to do something special.

“Rochelle will be delivering these packs to us on the anniversary of Milli’s funeral,” she said.

“We hosted a morning tea to commemorate Milli, honour her legacy and celebrate the beautiful gift of her rainbow baby, Huey.

“We also wanted to thank Rochelle for trusting our team to care for her through her second pregnancy and birth, and for choosing our hospital as one of the lucky ones to receive her Baby Loss Packs. We know how much of an impact they will make on families experiencing loss.”

There's two things that changed everything for photographer Monique Phelps of Willow and Finch - becoming a mother, and witnessing her friend bring life into the world. The woman responsible for the pregnancy, birth and postpartum pics on our walls says...

"Photography was always my passion but everything shifted when I became a mum. I have two little girls who are my whole world — they’ve completely changed how I see life, light, and love. Since becoming a mother, I capture moments with a deeper sense of urgency and emotion, because I truly know how fast time slips away.

"I fell into birth photography when I said yes to photographing a friend's birth and it was one of the best decisions of my life. Being in that room, witnessing a woman bring life into the world, changed me. It’s raw, powerful, and beautiful in every way."

Birth doesn't always go to plan. For some, trauma lingers - sucking the joy out of newborn cuddles and making sleepless nights unbearable. Birth trauma is insidious. It erodes our sense of self, interrupts our thoughts, steals our confidence and hijacks our relationships.

The theme for this year's Birth Trauma Awareness Week is 'This Is Birth'.

Birth Trauma Australia is asking people to share three words that capture part of their birth journey. These words might hold pain, power, joy, grief, healing — or all of the above. They may reflect moments of care, hurt, understanding, or confusion. By pairing these words with a photo or artwork that reflects your experience whether it’s pregnancy, birth or your postnatal journey, we’re creating a powerful campaign that resists the ‘one-size-fits-all’ narrative of birth. Because This Is birth. Your Story Matters.

Menasheh Lorincz-Griffin was the smallest baby to undergo successful open heart surgery at Queensland Children's Hospital, just 16 days after being born at Gold Coast Private at just 32 weeks.

The little miracle is now back on our ward as a healthy, happy two-year-old, visiting his new baby sister...and gee we've loved having him here again! Caring for families is such a privilege; being trusted to care for a family multiple times is an honour we'll never tire of.

It’s official - our midwife Tara Peirce has been crowned National Graduate of the Year at the 2025 ACE Awards. We had a chat to our superstar who told us “midwifery isn’t just a job, it’s a calling”. Here’s what she said:

Why did you choose to become a midwife?

“My journey into midwifery was driven by a passion for supporting women through one of the most transformative and memorable experiences of their lives. Before midwifery I was a personal trainer specialising in pregnancy and postpartum fitness. I decided to become a midwife so I could support women throughout the entire journey and make a meaningful difference in the lives of women and their families.”

What do you love about midwifery?

“It is the most rewarding and fulfilling profession. I love the endless opportunities for growth - the learning never stops and there is always more to understand, refine and improve. No birth is the same so the constant evolution keeps me engaged and motivated to be the best midwife I can.”

What do you love about Gold Coast Private Maternity?

“I’m so lucky to work within a collaborative and compassionate team in a maternity unit that is so nurturing and supportive. Gold Coat Private is filled with dedicated, like-minded professionals who inspire me daily and being surrounded by such a positive team enhances the quality of care we provide, and makes coming to work a dream.

Midwifery is more than just a job to me—it’s a calling, and I feel incredibly honoured to be part of such a meaningful and life-changing chapter for the families I care for.”

Congratulations Tara. We are so pleased you answered the midwifery call and chose to come to Gold Coast Private ❤️
