Melanoma Awareness – March
March is a time to raise awareness about melanoma, the most serious form of skin cancer. It develops in the skin’s pigment cells and can spread to other parts of the body if not detected early.
Australia has one of the highest rates of melanoma in the world, and around 95% of cases are linked to UV exposure.
Simple steps can help reduce your risk:
• Seek shade during the hottest part of the day
• Wear sun-protective clothing, a hat and sunglasses
• Apply SPF 50+ sunscreen and reapply regularly
• Avoid sunburn and excessive sun exposure
Melanoma often appears as a new spot on the skin or a change in an existing mole, so it’s important to be familiar with your skin and notice any changes.
If you notice any new or changing spots, or would simply like a general skin check, we encourage you to see your doctor or visit our clinic for an assessment.
