I thought I would share some feedback from a student who was present during one of our mental health presentations that we delivered earlier in the year.
This student was apart of the school leaders program through the Committee 4 Wagga and chose to base his graduation speech on resilience.
I wanted to share it with everyone because it is articulated so well and may help someone else on their journey. Rhys

Just like this rubber band, life stretches us.
Deadlines, expectations, friendships, family, we all get pulled. But resilience isn't about never feeling stretched. It's about how we bounce back without breaking." Good morning, my name is -, and I can confidently say Module 5 has been one of the most valuable parts of the WSLP journey for me.
In this module, we had guest speaker Rhys from Murrumbidgee Men's Group come in and talk to us about resilience and mental health, not as just some distant idea, but as something real, personal, and honestly, something we don't talk about enough.
What really stuck with me was how simple Rhys made it. Resilience isn't pretending everything's fine.
It's about recognising when you're being stretched, knowing when to ask for help, and building habits that help you recover. This can be as simple as the box breathing techniques we practiced or creating a solid support network you can lean on.
I realised resilience isn't weakness or toughness but rather balance. Since that session, I've started paying attention not just to how I feel, but how my friends are doing too. I've learned that a simple check-in can make a huge difference for someone who's being quietly stretched like this rubber band.
So my challenge to all of us is this, don't wait until you feel like you're about to snap. Build your resilience now. Talk to someone, support your mates, and check in on yourself. Because real strength isn't how much pressure you can take, it's how well you bounce back. Thank you
