Tuesday self care practices

We can't avoid stress completely but we can better prepare ourselves to cope with stressful situations when they arise and reduce their impact on our health.

Intentional daily practices can help our body shift from the sympathetic response (Fight or flight) to the para sympathetic response (Rest and Digest) with more ease.

The gut plays a role in stress modulation by transmitting signals to and from the brain via neurotransmitters, along the vagus nerve. Supporting a healthy vagal tone is vital for this process to be optimal.

Here are some exercises you might like to incorporate into your daily routine to support a healthy vagal tone.

DEEP BREATHING PRACTICES
Breathe in deeply for the count of four, hold the breath for the count of four, release the breath for the count of four and repeat for four. Introduce this as a daily or twice daily practice in your life. Try adding a few drops of your favourite essential oil to your hands before you inhale (I love adaptiv here)

ALTERNATE NOSTRIL BREATHING
Place your right thumb on the outside of your right nostril, closing it off.
Inhale fully, through your left nostril.
Holding the breath, use your right ring finger to close off your left nostril, & then remove your thumb from your right nostril. Exhale fully out of your right nostril.
Now repeat in the opposite direction. This is one round.
Continue for 5-10 rounds, or until you feel relaxed.

COLD THERAPY
Cold therapy is a beneficial way to support the body in transitioning between the sympathetic and parasympathetic nervous systems. Try immersing your body in a warm shower for 5 minutes then immediately transition into cold water for 20 seconds.
Alternatively you can start by splashing your face with cold water after a warm shower then work up to the full body.

Everything in our universe is made up of molecules that vibrate at different speeds.

As humans, our vibrations are made up of physical matter, our thoughts and what we speak

Some of the highest vibrations being
❤Love
❤Gratitude
❤Peace
❤Joy
❤Kindness

You feel lighter and happier with these vibrations

Some of the lowest vibrations being
👉Fear
👉Hatred
👉Anger
👉Anxiety
👉Worry
👉Despair

You feel heaviness, confusion, darkness with these vibrations

When you are experiencing lower vibrations more often you may also notice that you are physically feeling flat, lethargic, discomfort & tension throughout the body, more prone to illness

🌸Here are 6 things you can do to increase your vibration each day

🌸Have a gratitude practice

👉A journal that you can write in your gratitude for the day. Last thing before bed is a great time

👉Allow each member of your family to express what they are grateful for before dinner each night

👉Express gratitude throughout the day ie when you pay a bill or do the shopping- thank you for the money.

🌸Love

👉Visualise and think about someone that you love, allow the feelings of joy, love and warmth to wash over you.

👉Embrace someone that you love, this physical touch will reduce physical discomfort and raise your vibration

🌸Meditation, yoga and breathwork (use essential oils)

👉Add 1-2 drops of essential oil into your hand, rub together and then inhale through the nose. Try this breathing technique. Breathe in for 4, hold for 4, release for 4. Easy Air, Clearify, Douglas Fir , Siberian Fir is good here to expand the chest.

👉Breathe in the fresh air. Our brain is made up of 75% water. That is H20, two hydrogen atoms and one oxygen atom, it NEEDS oxygen to work effectively. Our brain is incredibly metabolically active (kids even more so) and has a huge thirst for oxygen. Breathe fresh air deeply!

👉Meditation and yoga are incredible practices to calm the nervous system, instill feelings of peace and relax the physical and emotional bodies. Apply Rose touch (highest vibration oil) to your heart space and wrists before your practice.

🌸Nature

👉Roll Balance Touch to the base of your feet and then place your barefeet into the earth to ground yourself and connect back into the source. This is simply like plugging yourself into a PowerPoint to recharge and vibe up.
This is also a really great way to expose yourself to the beneficial microbes in the earth.

👉Get out into the sunshine. Natural Vitamin D is incredibly powerful for mood, sleep and also for Immune health. 10 to 15 mins every day onto your skin.

👉Go for a walk in nature. Movement encourages blood to flow around your body, oxygen to pump to your organs and hormones to be released. This increases mood and your vibration quickly plus improves clarity. Feeling stuck? go for a walk

🌸You are what you eat

👉Consume food that is as close to the source as possible. Farmers markets, home grown. By organic as often as you can and ditch the toxic residues.

👉Eat high vibrational food. Consuming nutrient dense high vibe food will lift your vibration naturally. Processed and additive filled foods encourage dense energy within the body.

👉Stay hydrated. Filtered water is best.

🌸Consume high vibe music and entertainment

👉Turn off anything that brings about the lower vibrations

👉Put Citrus oils into your diffuser, turn on your favourite music and dance around your home, watch your fave movie with someone you love, laugh until your cheeks hurt.

Are you always thinking of new ways to entertain the kids?

I am a mum to a tenacious toddler that loves to get into everything the moment I turn my back or try to get some work done.

The other day the walls and the dog became a nice shade of blue 🙄😂

If you are anything like me you are always trying to come up with new ways to entertain the kids..hands up if this is you 🖐

Being an additive free and low tox family I am conscious about what I expose my children's skin, airways and hormones to so opting for natural alternatives will always be a priority for me.

This natural, no cook, aromatherapy playdough is simple enough, time effective (hello busy mums), sensory supportive and a good way to keep active kids happy so you can get a few things done 🙌

Into a bowl add
👉2 cups of flour (I use wholemeal plain flour gives it texture too)
👉1 cup fine salt (I use pink himalayan)
👉3 tablespoons olive oil
👉1 cup of water
👉 1 tablespoon of cream of tartar
Mix then use hands to combine and knead really well

👉Separate the dough into two and add food colouring of choice. I choose to use Hoppers natural food colouring
👉Knead really well until the colour coats the dough
👉Add 2 to 3 drops of 100% Pure Essential oils to each batch and knead again

👉 I choose to use essential oils always for their purity and ethical sourcing.
This time I used Bergamot mint in the green dough for calming and Lemon in the yellow for uplifted, happy mood.

Then it's time to let the kids enjoy the sensory experience, naturally 🌸

2️⃣ Skin Issues

Conditions such as eczema, acne, rosacea, dry skin & psoriasis can all be linked to imbalanced gut health

3️⃣ Gas, bloating & pain esp after meals

An imbalance of gut bacteria can lead to an overproduction of gas, reflux, reduced digestion & many other uncomfortable symptoms

4️⃣ Sleep Issues

Approx 90% of Serotonin (feel good hormone) is produced in the gut. Serotonin is a precursor for Melatonin (sleep hormone)
Our gut bacteria also support our circadian rhythm

When food is unable to be effectively broken down in the gut & nutrients absorbed & utilised, it can lead to decreased physical energy, mental fog & deficiencies of key players such as Iron.

Did you know that we can't feel stressed and have good digestion at the same time?

Stress (real or perceived) activates our sympathetic nervous system, compromising our digestion which is controlled by the Para sympathetic nervous system.

The body CAN NOT engage the Para sympathetic and Sympathetic NS at the same time.

Beyond slowing down digestion the continued release of stress hormones can lead to

👉Increased abdominal fat
👉Food intolerances
👉Leaky gut
👉Elevated Blood sugar levels
👉Inflammation
👉Altered gut microbiome
👉Indigestion, ulcers, reflux
👉Persistent Bloating

3️⃣ Gratitude practice.
This reminds the body that no threats are present. Express 3 things that you are grateful for in that moment

4️⃣ Eat without distraction.
Avoid eating in front of a tv or computer screen and any situation where your focus is not on the process of eating.
Smell your food, notice the different flavours and textures, chew it well.

5️⃣ Create a pleasant eating atmosphere.
Clear the table from clutter and set it, add some fresh flowers, play some music, eat outdoors, dine with friends & loved ones, use aromatherapy

If you make up this 👇 super simple mattress freshener, you can use it on your mattress each time you wash your linen

👉Get a stainless steel salt/herb shaker from the supermarket
👉Almost fill with Bicarb soda
👉Add 20 drops of cleansing/purifying/freshening Essential oils. Lemon Myrtle, Lemon or lemon eucalyptus are great for this
👉Put lid on and shake
👉Sprinkle over mattress and leave for a few hours
👉Vacuum up and put bed linen back on

The best advice that I have ever been given.

How many times have you stopped yourself from starting something that you are passionate about because of your fear of not knowing enough, failing at it or the opinions of others?

The thing is, the time is going to pass anyway and what matters most is YOUR happiness.

I was once told to just begin, do the one thing, start before I even felt ready so that I could gain valuable skills and confidence simply by doing the work!

Just start, take the leap and back yourself ❤

Something that you likely don't know about me

Daily intentional movement & utilising plant based solutions aren't just something that I love to incorporate into my life, they are something that I MUST incorporate in order to get up everyday.

I have HYPERMOBILITY SYNDROME & this is how it shows up for me 👇

👉Atypically flexible (hypermobile) joints ( daily hyperextension of knees, elbows ect)

👉Consistently painful, achey, clicky & inflammed joints particularly knees, hips, fingers, elbows, jaw. Slow to get moving if have been sitting for a while.

👉Regular feeling of discomfort, strain & fatigue in my muscles because they have to work harder to support my supple joints

👉Increase in injuries (Ruptured ACL & damaged meniscus, broken ankle whilst running, broke my finger in two places when it bent back during sport & too many sprains to mention)

👉Emotionally can be prone to anxious feelings & overwhelm

So what do I do about it so that it doesn't consume me?

A daily preventative approach is key for me 👇

🌸Incorporate natural anti inflammatory & high antioxidant wholefoods, foods rich in Essential fatty acids (EFA's) & gut nourishing properties

🌸Maintaining adequate hydration is crucial in lubricating my joints & improving my energy. I fill a large stainless steel waterbottle & keep with me

🌸Daily intentional exercise for me looks like walking (5-7kms), lots of correct stretching so that I am stretching the muscles not the joints (so important) plus strength & muscle building exercises (my fave for this is reformer pilates) so that my joints are supported by strong muscles 👇 the risk of injury.

🌸Utilising pure plant extracts -When we use plants in their natural state our body recognises them & can utilise their benefits quickly & effectively without the side effects.

My must haves are

👉Copaiba (soft gels + oil),Turmeric, Frankincense, Helichrysum, Ice Blue (for comfort, inflammation, combat muscle fatigue, pre & post exercise)
👉Adaptiv, Magnolia (Sleep, emotions)

Some days I can't show up in the way that I would like but I am ok with listening to my body knowing that I have the tools to support me to show up again another day

Ever feel like there aren't enough hours in the day to get everything done you would like?

Do you feel overwhelmed and even anxious when the list doesn't seem to be getting smaller or the deadline is looming?

Ahh the sweet sound of a non-school morning.

There's no children running around asking where their socks and shoes are, I haven't asked for their lunch boxes 50 times and I've been able to enjoy my breakfast mindfully rather than feeling rushed.

7 Steps to Improved Well-being 🌸

You've finished work for the day and are feeling absolutely buggered but still have to prepare tea and put the kids to bed!

There has been so much on your mind lately, you have been trying to keep up with everything on your to do list PLUS make an effort with your health but there just doesn't seem to be any time for self care.

It's no wonder you are feeling depleted rather than nourished.

I totally get it! I spent alot of time here and I know we aren't alone. I also know that having the right support is a non negotiable for successfully shifting this!

Hello all, a little bit about the face behind the brand.

My name is Erin, I am a mother to three incredibly energetic young children, a wife to an amazingly supportive husband and a Blue Diamond level doTERRA leader empowering and educating others to create wellness and abundance in their lives.

My background is in health. I have been a Registered nurse and midwife for the last 12 years and have developed a deep passion for education about proactive and preventative health care. My particular focus being on reducing the toxic load in our lives and living an additive and chemical free lifestyle.

Over the past few years I have gained the necessary knowledge and tools needed to overhaul our lifestyle and ease the transition to create wellness in our lives.
