🚨 A Gentle Reminder for Our Aged Care Community: Protect Your Mail & Cards 🚨
We recently supported one of our wonderful clients through a very stressful situation, and we want to share her story to help keep you and your loved ones safe.

While this lovely lady was recovering in the hospital, her bank sent a replacement debit card to her home. Unfortunately, someone she lived with intercepted the mail. Shortly after, the letter containing her new PIN arrived and was also taken. Because she wasn’t there to check her own mailbox, this led to devastating fraudulent transactions on her account.

Whether you live alone, share a home with flatmates, or have frequent visitors, your financial safety is paramount. Here are two simple but crucial steps to protect yourself:

1. Be the Boss of Your Mailbox
Whenever possible, make sure you are the one checking and collecting your mail. If you are going to the hospital or staying away from home, ask a trusted family member or a verified care worker to collect it for you, or request a temporary mail hold through the post office.

2. Guard Your PIN
When using EFTPOS, always cover the keypad with your hand. Never write your PIN down on a piece of paper in your wallet, and make sure any letters containing PINs are destroyed immediately after you memorize them. Keep your cards stashed safely out of sight at home.

Your security matters to us. Please share this reminder with friends, neighbors, and family members to help keep our community safe! 💙

☀️ Happy Sunday, beautiful community.

Today is a day for a warm cup of tea, a soft blanket, and a quiet moment just for you.

To every aged care client, carer, and family member reading this — you are doing something incredibly hard, often without enough support, and often without enough recognition. That matters. YOU matter.

This community exists because none of us should have to navigate the aged care system alone. Whether you have a question, a concern, or just need to know someone is listening — we are here. Every day. Especially Sundays. 💛

Drop a 🍵 in the comments if you are enjoying a quiet Sunday morning — we would love to hear from you.

Are your fees too high? Are services being cancelled? Is nobody listening?

Whether you want to self-manage your package or just want someone to be accountable — this guide is for you.

If you are struggling financially, ask about hardship provisions. The law says providers MUST consider this.

Are you feeling stuck with your Home Care Package provider? You are not alone.

We are hearing from more and more people who feel trapped — unable to leave their current provider, yet struggling to get the support, transparency, and answers they deserve within the system.

If you are self-managed on a Level 2 (or any level) Home Care Package and you are unsure about your fees, your care plan, or your rights — this flowchart is for you.

You have the right to:
✔ A full written budget statement at any time
✔ An updated, individualised care plan
✔ Clear answers before signing any service agreement
✔ Change providers if your needs are not being met

Start by asking the questions on this chart. Put everything in writing. And if you are not getting answers — escalate.

Support at Home: What You Need to Know

If you or your loved one are receiving aged care services at home, it’s so important to understand how Support at Home may affect the way care and services are delivered.

Many older Australians and families are asking:

What is Support at Home?
How will it affect my current services?
Will I still get the help I need?
What happens to my funding and care management?

The changes can feel confusing, especially when you’re already trying to manage care, appointments, and everyday life.

What you need to know is this:
Support at Home is designed to simplify home care, but it’s important to ask questions, understand your budget, and make sure the services you receive still match your needs and goals.

Families should feel confident to ask their provider about:
✔️ what services are included
✔️ how funding is being used
✔️ care management fees
✔️ whether care can be adjusted as needs change
✔️ what support is available while waiting for services

The more informed you are, the better you can advocate for yourself or your loved one.

What part is confusing you the most?

Share your thoughts below — you’re not alone, and this page is here to help make things easier to understand. 💙

🥹Price Caps on the Horizon (But Hold Your Horses!)

Right now, Support at Home providers are like free spirits, setting their own price tags. So, depending on the provider you pick, the cost could do a little dance!

But wait, the Australian Government has a plan to put on the price cap hat starting July 2026. These caps aim to make pricing as fair and square as a slice of Vegemite toast across the land.

In the meantime, prices might play hopscotch.

What this means for you:

Prices are free-range right now, so go ahead and shop around.

Demand crystal-clear pricing before signing on the dotted line.

Price limits are on the way, but not quite here yet.

By July 2026, prices should be as straightforward as reading a road sign.

This info is just a friendly guide to help you navigate the Support at Home pricing maze!

🌿 Morning Tip: Before You Agree to a Care Plan or Budget

If you’re new to Support at Home, here’s something important to know:

👉 You don’t have to approve a Care Plan or budget until you understand it.

Before signing off, it’s okay to:
✔ ask for the assessment summary from My Aged Care
✔ check the plan reflects what was discussed at assessment
✔ ask how funding has been allocated and why
✔ request changes if something doesn’t feel right
✔ slow the process down if trust or clarity is missing

A Care Plan should support your needs — not leave you feeling confused or rushed.

If you’re unsure, asking for a second set of eyes (such as an independent advocate) is allowed and encouraged.

📢 Important Aged Care Update — Accommodation Costs from 1 January 2026

From 1 January 2026, the Maximum Permissible Interest Rate (MPIR) used to calculate Daily Accommodation Payments (DAPs) in residential aged care has increased to 7.65%, according to official government fee schedules.

💡 What is the MPIR?
The MPIR is a government-set interest rate that aged care providers must use to calculate DAPs when someone chooses to pay daily accommodation payments instead of a lump sum (RAD).

🧮 Why does the increase matter?
Even a small change in the MPIR can increase the ongoing cost of accommodation in aged care. For example, for a room with a $550,000 RAD equivalent, the increase in MPIR could mean residents pay around $220 more per year in daily payments compared to 12 months ago.

📅 Key point:
This new MPIR only applies to people who enter permanent residential aged care from 1 January 2026 onward.

💬 If you’re planning for residential care or reviewing payment options, it’s a good idea to talk to a financial advisor or your aged care provider so you understand how current rates may affect your costs.
