Study stress is peaking, sleep is dropping, and emotions are high. Our calm won’t fix everything, but it helps far more than we realise. Let’s steady the ship, not speed it up. Here are a few tips that might help:
Feed the mood, not the stress. Cook their favourite meal, order takeaway, or share a late-night snack together. For many kids, food equals comfort and connection.
Change the scenery. Go for a short walk, drive, or even a trip to the supermarket together. Movement helps emotions shift.
Laugh first, talk later. Share a meme, a funny reel, or a silly story from your day before diving into serious chats. A recent study has shown that when technology is used in short burst throughout the day (to view a reel or as an emotional check in) it can help with stress levels. It’s not monolithic, so let’s use it to help not hinder.
End the day softly. Dim down screens and any drama. What matters most is ending the day with connection and a chat in the dark or a “You’ve got this.”
