Risky play does not mean unsafe play.

It means giving children supported opportunities to climb higher, balance carefully, use real tools, move through tricky spaces and test what their bodies can do.
These moments help children practise problem-solving, confidence, decision-making and body awareness.

We stay close, but we don’t take over, with the understanding that children need to take risks, to learn to manage them.

Last term, we kicked off something pretty fun - our Adventure Group.

At the beginning of the term, the children worked together to plan where we would go and what we would do.
They shared ideas, made choices as a group, and helped shape the adventures for the term.

Across the term, we enjoyed fishing and camp cooking in King Creek, digging for crabs and sandcastle challenges at Settlement Point, geocaching in Cowarra, and swimming at Koree Island.
Along the way, there was plenty of planning, problem-solving, teamwork, flexibility, confidence and connection.

We had an incredible term of local adventures, with the most amazing part being the space it provided for everyone to have relax, be a little silly and have fun being a kid!

Recently, our Director Jacqui travelled up to Gympie, QLD to coach at a Ladies Only motocross coaching campout weekend.

Before starting Rosewood, Jacqui grew up racing state and national motocross and enduro, and was also part of Australia’s first women’s team at the International Six Day Enduro.

She’s now working on bringing her two worlds of Rosewood and motorcycle riding together, with something exciting in the works.

We’re looking forward to sharing more soon, so stay tuned!

Not every child will rush into group play.

Some days are about connecting quietly, or holding steady in routine, and that’s just as important.

At Rosewood, we follow each child’s rhythm.
Growth happens when children feel safe, supported and able to go at their own pace.

On the weekend we had our last WildCamp before the cooler weather settles in — and it was packed with all the good stuff.

The boys travelled together, went fossicking, worked as a team to set up camp, cut wood for the fire and cooked outdoors.

They watched an evening movie, met new friends, helped each other out, shared what they knew, and had plenty of conversations about their different lives, interests and perspectives.

It was a meaningful way to wrap up this season of WildCamp before we head into winter.

Keep an eye out on our socials for spring WildCamp dates once the warmer weather returns.

Each morning before sessions, we do a lap of the property to make sure our space is safe and ready for play.

We safely check around logs, shelters and structures, to make sure there aren’t any risky creatures that have made a home overnight.

We clear sticks off the bike tracks, check the chicken house, and look for anything else that needs sorting before the day begins.

Mud, water, bark, leaves and sticks give children real textures to touch, explore and make sense of.

Through natural play, children can get the sensory input their bodies need, which can help them feel calmer, more settled and ready to engage.
