What if sound could help regulate your nervous system?
Your body doesn’t just hear sound; it responds to it.
The vagus nerve is the main communication pathway between the brain and the body. It helps regulate the parasympathetic nervous system; the state where the body can rest, digest, and heal.
Certain sounds and vibrations can gently stimulate this system, helping the body move out of stress and back into balance.
When vagal activity increases, we may experience:
• a slower heart rate
• reduced cortisol and stress hormones
• improved digestion
• deeper breathing patterns
• emotional regulation
• increased feelings of safety and calm
Healing isn’t always achieved through doing more psycho-education, talk therapy and medications.
Sometimes the nervous system the additional positive sensory experiences to calm the nervous system and activate your vagus nerve, which is often achieved through sound therapy.
Sound therapy is one of the many approaches I use in my arts therapy sessions,
which are centred on neuro-affirming, trauma and FV informed practices.
