A public service announcement for all of Dr Metcalfe's patients (a little late, sorry).

Dr Metcalfe has decided to take a break from clinical medicine and to focus her time with her family and in other endeavours. We are missing her already at Sage Medical but can't wait to hear about what artistic projects she gets up to. She's going to be on leave for the next 6 months, after which time, we hope to see her back at the clinic.

Dr Andrea An graduated from The University of Queensland Medical School in 2019. She completed her early hospital training as a Resident Medical Officer at the Royal Brisbane and Women’s Hospital and the Queensland Children’s Hospital, before returning to her hometown in Far North Queensland to complete her General Practice training.

Dr Andrea is committed to providing comprehensive, evidence-based care to her community. She values clear communication, shared decision-making, and continuity of care, and takes a considered, patient-centered approach.

Outside of work, Dr Andrea enjoys spending time with her friends, family, and her three much-loved cats. She has a keen interest in Pilates and loves exploring local cafés, restaurants, and the broader dining scene.

Dr Rebecca Manger brings more than three decades of clinical experience to Sage Medical. She graduated from the University of Queensland in 1988 and has since built a diverse and compassionate medical career across regional and remote Australia, as well as several years working in the United Kingdom.

After moving to Melbourne’s west over 20 years ago, Dr Manger has become a trusted and respected GP within the community. Her work has long focused on supporting women through all stages of life, with particular interest in menopause care, reproductive and sexual health, menstrual concerns, and general wellbeing.

Driven by a commitment to providing a safe, gentle, and confidential environment for women, she founded Completely Well Woman—a dedicated space designed specifically to support women’s health needs with empathy and clinical excellence.

Dr Manger now brings this expertise to Sage Medical, where she warmly welcomes both new and existing patients. She is passionate about empowering women with clear information, thoughtful care, and long-term support for their health goals.

Dr. Hee Hung Yii was born in Malaysia, and spent time studying and working in Ireland, before moving to New Zealand. He completed his specialist training in New Zealand and became a Fellow of the Royal New Zealand College of General Practitioners as well as the Royal New Zealand College of Urgent Care.

His experience in urgent care means that he has extensive experience in managing musculoskeletal issues and sports injuries. He also has a special interest in dermatology and is working towards his advanced certificates in dermoscopy and skin cancer medicine. He also enjoys procedural work and can provide steroid injections to shoulders, carpal tunnels and wrists. His interests also extend to chronic care conditions such as asthma, eczema, and diabetes, as well as other chronic medical conditions, mental health and women’s health.

Outside of work, he enjoys spending time with his family, cooking, and tries to keep fit by playing soccer and running.

We are proud to share that Dr Shannen De Mello has passed her GP Fellowship exams! She is an amazing GP and a great asset to Sage Medical Centre. Dr Shannen is planning to continue working with us as a fully qualified GP for the foreseeable future. She consults on Mondays, Tuesdays and Fridays and is already very popular amongst our patients.

Much to our disappointment, from the 1st of November, the government is pushing ahead with big cutbacks to mental health rebates for patients. This means that you will get a lower rebate from Medicare when you attend your GP for a mental health plan review.

To help maximise the rebates for our patients at Sage Medical, we are expanding our patient’s access to Chronic Condition Management Plans for eligible patients. These plans will allow you access to higher Medicare rebates when you’re registered with our practice through MyMedicare.

Meningitis cases are rising all across Australia this year, with 56 cases so far. Winter and Spring are the peak time for meningitis cases every year. Notably, four cases have been reported in Victoria in the last four weeks alone, three of which have been in the 0-4years age group.

Given the rapid progression and potentially devastating consequences of Meningococcal B disease, prevention remains a key priority.

Meningitis B can affect individuals of any age, but those at highest risk include infants under 1 year, children aged 1-4 years, followed by adolescents/young adults aged 15-24 years.

Please consider booking your children with our nurses at Sage Medical for a Meningococcal B (Bexsero) vaccine, in addition to their government funded vaccines. Vaccination can play a vital role in protecting against this disease.

Shannen graduated from the University of Melbourne in 2020 with a Doctor of Medicine and Master of Public Health. Since then, she has worked in Melbourne’s western suburbs in both hospital and community settings. She is a GP Registrar in her final stages of GP training.

Shannen is passionate about providing high quality primary care and enjoys all aspects of general practice – especially working with people to improve their health and quality of life over time.

Shannen’s special interests include chronic disease management, preventative medicine, refugee and migrant health, sexual health, women’s health and paediatrics.
