Why do we kiss under the mistletoe? π€π
This tradition is deeply rooted in the beliefs of our Celtic and Druidic pagan ancestors. The mistletoe was a sacred plant to the ancient British Druids, Celts and Gauls.
Growing on the boughs of their equally scared oak tree, mistletoe stayed green and alive when all around it shrivelled and died from the winter cold.
It represented life, well-being, fertility, and the promise of the returning of spring.
In preparation for winter solstice the mistletoe would be harvested on the 6th day of the moon by a Druidic elder. Dressed in white robes he would climb the oak tree and cut the mistletoe with a golden sickel.
The sacred mistletoe would be caught in a white cloth so as to never to touch the earth as this would cause it to lose its magickal powers.
Two white bulls were brought into the grove and sacrificed to the gods, and the mistletoe used to make an elixir for the winter solstice rituals.
Even today the mistletoe plant still represents healing and hope π when winter comes we hang it in the air high above us and share love, peace and fertility beneath it π©ββ€οΈβπβπ¨

"The druids β that is what they call their magicians β hold nothing more sacred than the mistletoe and a tree on which it is growing, provided it is Valonia Oakβ¦. Mistletoe is rare and when found it is gathered with great ceremony, and particularly on the sixth day of the moonβ¦.Hailing the moon in a native word that means βhealing all things,β they prepare a ritual sacrifice and banquet beneath a tree and bring up two white bulls, whose horns are bound for the first time on this occasion. A priest arrayed in white vestments climbs the tree and, with a golden sickle, cuts down the mistletoe, which is caught in a white cloak. Then finally they kill the victims, praying to a god to render his gift propitious to those on whom he has bestowed it. They believe that mistletoe given in drink will impart fertility to any animal that is barren and that it is an antidote to all poisonsβ

To my Celtic and Anglo brothers and sisters....
Stop letting people tell you that you do not have a culture. You do, they just don't encourage or teach it to you.
Stop letting people tell you that you have no spiritual connection to the earth. You do, you always have.
