After working for 15 years in the Adventure travel industry and then raising some amazing kids, I've had a career change and 2020 saw me study the cert IV in Disability at Melbourne Polytechnic. I really enjoyed this learning experience and found that units studied have been so beneficial in my new career.
I am extremely passionate about empowerment and I enjoy focusing on the amazing abilities of the people I support, rather than just the disability. I like to form genuine relationships with my Clients and always take their lead in the kind of support they would like. I also care deeply about improving inclusivity in the community and pride myself on actively raising awareness about the social model of disability.
I love working with children and have found my clients like there is a lot of flexibility when it comes to choosing me as their support worker. As I have a large back yard with some amazing sensory equipment some of my clients prefer I support their children at my home. They get to take advantage of this equipment and parents receive complete respite whilst I have their children in my care.
Although my focus is working with children, I often take adult clients as I love the adult company and diversity it brings to my role! I really love meeting new people and I’ve met some incredible people throughout my short journey as a Disability Support Worker.
I love being an independent Support Worker as I believe it gives people more choice and more control over the quality and consistency of their support.
