🚸 How are Aussie kids really doing when it comes to movement?

The latest report card shows we’ve got some work to do — but the good news is, every little step counts! 💪

✅ Build strong bones & muscles
✅ Boost attention & learning
✅ Improve sleep & confidence

From role modelling and active travel 🚲 to limiting screen time 📱 and sneaking in “brain breaks” 🧠 — these simple strategies can make a big difference for your family.

💬 Tell us in the comments: What’s one way your family will add more movement this week?

🦴 Why does hip surveillance matter in CP?

Because hips can change silently — without pain — and early checks can prevent serious problems later. Dislocations, surgery, and discomfort aren’t inevitable when we act early.

👶 Whether your child is walking or not, hip checks are essential.
📅 Start early, check often (based on risk), and follow the plan.

✔️ Parents: Ask your physio about a hip surveillance plan
✔️ Clinicians: Make hip checks routine

💡 10+ years of research proves it works — fewer dislocations, less pain, better quality of life 💛

✨ Introducing the Movement ABC - a standardised assessment that helps identify children who may have motor difficulties underlying their everyday challenges – for example, issues with handwriting, dressing, or playground activities.

The Movement ABC is trusted worldwide by physios, OTs and schools to spot motor challenges early.

✅ Clear, reliable results
✅ Helps plan targeted therapy
✅ Builds confidence, independence & participation

💡 Our clinic has a Movement ABC kit ready to go! We can assess your child in our clinic, school or home, and create a personalised plan to help them thrive.

🧠✨ Social stories at Outreach Physio ✨🧠

At Outreach Physio, we create custom social stories to support our young clients 💬👧🏽👦🏼

➡️ What’s a social story?
Social stories are simple, visual guides that help children understand what to expect in new or tricky situations — like coming to physio, using new equipment, or trying a new activity.

👀 They use clear language, pictures, and routines to:
✔️ Reduce anxiety
✔️ Build confidence
✔️ Support communication
✔️ Encourage independence

Whether it’s getting ready for a hydrotherapy session or learning how to use a walker, our social stories are made just for your child — culturally responsive, developmentally appropriate, and full of encouragement 💛

Here is an example of a social story about a boy with Perthes disease — showing how we supported conservative management through visuals and reassurance.

📚 Knowing what to expect helps kids feel safe, confident, and ready to take part.

🏃‍♂️💙 What’s a Frame Runner?

It’s a three-wheeled running frame that helps kids who may not be able to run, walk long distances, or keep up with their friends—move freely, play, and join in the fun

For many kids, a Frame Runner means joining in school sport, playing at recess, and even competing in races 🏅 It supports balance, builds strength, and boosts confidence—while making movement fun and freeing.

From playgrounds to PE class, Frame Running opens up a whole new world of participation.

Have you seen a Frame Runner before?

We’re proud to announce that our Outreach Team members Em, Trish & Nic have successfully completed the two-day Clinical Supervision Workshop, held on June 17–18 at the Royal Darwin Hospital campus! 🏥✨

This intensive course, led by fantastic facilitators, equips health professionals with the skills to support, mentor, and guide future practitioners. Our team dove into core supervision strategies — from “One Minute Preceptor” teaching tools and effective feedback techniques, to managing learners in the NT context and supporting those in difficulty

By completing this training, our Outreach Team is now even better prepared to mentor the next generation of physiotherapists — ensuring they receive top-tier, culturally responsive, and evidence-based clinical supervision in the field. 💪

When Jake’s Toyota ute started making a strange noise, he took it to the first mechanic he could find. The sign out front said, “European Car Specialist,” but Jake figured all mechanics were the same. The mechanic scratched his head. “I mostly work on BMWs and Audis, but… I guess I can give it a go.”
