HOLIDAYS WITHOUT KIDS 🏝
I am no expert on this, and definitely didn't think I'd be talking about this so early in my parenting journey. It's a very privileged position to be in.
But if you can do it, even just for a night or two, do it.
Before we left on this trip, I was feeling cranky, burnt out and just generally exhausted. Every day. (I guess being 16 weeks pregnant doesn't help 😓). I was trying to do all the things they tell mums to do; eat well, exercise, find time for yourself (yeah right!). But I was still feeling like s**t. Which made me feel worse.
Cue five days away with my bestie in FNQ.
Catching up on sleep ✔️
Finally reading a book ✔️
Talking without being interrupted ✔️
Running on our own schedule ✔️
Not being responsible for anyone else ✔️
And I am ready to jump back into the lions den 😂 Feeling refreshed, motivated and very grateful.
Biggest thanks obviously go to those holding down the forts at home. They knew we needed this and made it happen/talked away the guilts that crept up for weeks and exploded the night before 😅
So mums (and dads). Book some adult time. Start small if you need to, but know that you deserve it. It might seem like a lot of effort, but it's worth it. For you and for them.
