✍️🧠ADHD and doodling 🧠✍️

If you’re anything like me and grew up with ADHD, your school books were probably full of doodles.
I was always getting told off for drawing in class and “not paying attention.”

Turns out… doodling isn’t a lack of focus — it can actually support focus. Research suggests drawing and doodling can help people with ADHD to keep the brain engaged, support processing, and improve memory by keeping our brains switched on (hello dopamine 👋).

Doodling is a great way to engage in everyday creativity without the pressure of producing a “perfect” artwork. Like art therapy, it focuses on the process rather than the product — and all you need is paper and a pencil!

Many childhood experiences are stored deep in the brain as nonverbal memories, meaning we can feel them, but we can’t always put them into words.

Creating art activates the emotional and sensory parts of the brain—like the amygdala and right hemisphere—helping us tap into memories and feelings that talking alone can't always reach.

Art doesn’t just express—it unlocks. ✨🎨✨
