Whilst we have a mild reprieve today from the extreme heat doesn't mean we have to be less prepared.

Do your animals factor in your emergency plan?
Can you answer these questions:

🌠Do you know the pet friendly evacuation places in your area?
🆔 Are your animals microchipped and are the details up to date?
(And do you have a photo of each animal on your phone?)
📄 Do you have copies of vaccination records or meds?
A photo on your phone is enough in an emergency.
🏠 Have you spoken with neighbours or friends about helping each other evacuate animals if needed?
🚗 Is your vehicle heat-safe for animals?
(Crates secured, airflow, shade, cooling mats or damp towels.)
🐾 Do your animals have ID on them right now?
Collar tags, leg bands for birds, or travel labels.
🧊 Do you have a cooling plan if power goes out?
Frozen water bottles, battery fans, shaded wet areas.
🧠 Does your animal tolerate confinement or travel?
If not, now’s the time for short practice runs—not on evacuation day.
🌙 If evacuation happens overnight, do you have lighting and containment sorted?
Head torch + leads = sanity saver.

Extreme heat doesn’t give us much warning. A 10-minute plan now can save lives later — including the ones that can’t pack for themselves.

Gippsland Heat Alert – What Heat Stress Looks Like in Animals

With extreme heat forecast across Gippsland over the coming days, animals — pets, livestock, and wildlife — are at serious risk. Heat stress can become fatal very quickly.

🐶 Dogs

Hot days, hot pavements, and warm nights hit dogs hard.

Watch for:
🐾Heavy or frantic panting and thick drool
🐾Red or very pale gums
🐾Vomiting or diarrhoea
🐾Weakness, staggering, collapsing
🐾Confusion or unresponsiveness

📍 Risk increases in coastal humidity, especially around Sale, Lakes Entrance and Paynesville.

🐴 Horses

Heat stress in horses is common during Gippsland heat events — especially when nights don’t cool.
Signs include:

🐴Excessive sweating or stopping sweating altogether
🐴Fast breathing and flared nostrils
🐴Elevated heart rate that doesn’t settle
🐴Muscle tremors or stiffness
🐴Lethargy, dullness, reduced appetite
🐴Dark, concentrated urine

📍 High-risk areas include inland paddocks, low-wind valleys, and properties without natural shade.

Breton Animal Wellness, every session is tailored to the individual animal — their body, their nervous system, and their emotional wellbeing.

I work with:
• Performance horses who need balance, comfort, and ease
• Companion animals who deserve to move and feel better
• Senior animals needing gentle, respectful support
• Anxious or sensitive animals who benefit from calm, animal-led care

There’s no “one size fits all” here — just thoughtful, holistic bodywork designed to support your animal as they are, on the day.

Extreme Heat Reminder (Now until Saturday)

The next few days are forecast to be extreme heat, so it’s time to switch into cool, calm, and conservative mode for our animals.

Keeping horses cool

Unlimited access to fresh, cool water (check it more than once a day)

Shade is essential – trees, shelters, or stables with airflow

Avoid riding or working during the hottest part of the day

Hose legs, chest, and neck if needed (scrape excess water off to help cooling)

Add electrolytes only if appropriate and the horse is drinking well

Keeping dogs cool

Walk early morning or late evening only

Plenty of water + shaded rest areas

Cooling mats, damp towels, or a paddle pool can help

Never leave dogs in cars (even “just for a minute”)😱

Watch for signs of heat stress: excessive panting, drooling, lethargy

Bodywork sessions
For everyone’s safety and wellbeing, we will not be massaging during extreme heat.
Bodywork raises circulation and can add unnecessary stress to the body in these conditions. Sessions will resume once temperatures return to safe levels.

Sometimes the best care is knowing when to pause 💛
Thank you for understanding and prioritising your animal’s welfare.

Had a wonderful day treating horses today, started out at the Bass coast at Waterline Riding Academy and visiting two lovely horses there. A great place to get lessons but not only that the team there are so knowledgeable on horses. Then it was off to Fish Creek to work on the lovely Leon who is in the photo below and we gave him the works today and as you can see we ended it with Kinesiology Tape. Larrisa from Stable & Nook - Counselling & Wellness has a wonderful place and offers a number of services such as accommodation and counselling.

We’ve evolved 🌿

Breton Equine Wellness has grown into Breton Animal Wellness.

This change reflects what has always been at the heart of our work — a holistic, animal-led approach that supports not only the physical body, but also the emotional wellbeing of the animals we care for.

While our roots remain firmly in equine bodywork, this evolution allows us to extend the same trusted care to dogs, supporting comfort, movement, balance, and connection across species.

Same practitioner.
Same values.
A broader vision for animal wellbeing.

We’re closing out a Numerology Year 9 — a year of endings, lessons, and deep reflection — and stepping into a Year 1, a fresh beginning filled with new energy, new intentions, and new possibilities.

I want to say a heartfelt thank you to every person who trusted me with the care of their horse or dog this year. Being invited into their healing journey is something I never take lightly, and I’m incredibly grateful for the connection, trust, and shared moments along the way.

As we move forward into this new cycle, I wish you and your animals a year filled with health, balance, growth, and joy — in body, mind, and spirit.

✨ Wishing you the most amazing New Year ✨
Thank you for being part of this journey 🐴🐾
With much Love

Not the way I planned to end the year - my car is having some issues and needs to go to the dealer asap - this means I will be without a car until hopefully late Friday due to the Public Holidays.

So sorry to my clients, those who were booked in today I have reached out to reschedule.

My apologies.

Commitment

I want to do the best for your horse or dog and bring the balance back into their life. Body work whether it be massage , wave therapy, reiki or acupuncture all means that you are stimulating parts if not the whole body into working within and healing from inside out.

I commit to you that I have done the long term study so I benefit both you and your four legged friend and I commit to you I will continue to keep improving, gaining knowledge and working hard to assist you to be your best.
