I've had the wisest, most loving teachers over the years and they've had differing views on pain in healing.

But my philosophy, developed through working with women's bodies and a long career in Nursing, is that I can't help you if I hurt you.

Working within the pelvis requires deep trust, safety and consent. If your body feels hurt by me, its likely response will be to say 'no' to care, to create tension and to shut down.

Discomfort? Yes. Intensity? Sometimes. Uncertainty? We can work with that.

But hurt? Never. Being hurt by a care provider is a combination of physical pain, emotional distrust and your nervous system shifting into protective mode. In that state, you are likely to create rather than relieve tension.

If you've had a bad experience with another care provider who had a different approach to me, I'm sorry. If your body craves therapeutic touch that intentionally doesn't hurt you and instead listens, respects and engages with you, DM me or head to the website for details on how we can work together.

Constipation is a common occurrence among women I see for care and there are many causes.

This one is worth discussing because I see it fairly frequently - an association between tight uterosacral ligaments and constipation.

Internal Pelvic Release Work that addresses ALL the soft tissue of your pelvis may bring you the relief you seek.

For more information or to find a care session that meets your needs, get in touch with me here or head to the website for details.

Kneading the Dough, or perineal massage, is not just for birth preparation (but if you're over 32 weeks pregnant, you should be doing it!).

It is a valuable pelvic care practice throughout your life. It enhances your pelvic self-awareness, brings respectful touch to often neglected tissues and can be a helpful tool in relieving a wide variety of pelvic symptoms.

Sacral flexion is common after birth but is not something you should expect your body to live with.

It can cause back and hip pain, changes to the way your cervix, uterus and pelvic floor function and even issues with your bowels.

Unwinding sacral flexion is something I offer in all Internal Pelvic Release Work and external Bodywork sessions.

Curious about your sacrum? DM me or head to the website for service details and to book.

Sometimes, as a bodyworker, your tissues will reveal things to me that are sitting below your level of conscious thought.

I don't go looking for those messages unless I get a cue from the body - a tissue that resists release, a density or block in movement. Sometimes I don't get a cue at all and am just hit in the chest with an image, a word or a phrase.

It won't happen in every session. It won't happen with every woman. But when it does, it's worth listening to.

The emotions in this post are the most common ones that pelvic tissue reveals to me. There are others, including vibrant health and joy. But these ones are the ones that show up consistently, particularly when an experience has taken a woman by surprise or shaken her foundation of self.
The unplanned or in-labour caesarean birth.
The pregnancy that followed soon after a birth.
The loss of life, of dreams, of intentions.
The abuse.
The bullying and name-calling.
The high-stress job.
The mountainous expectations and demands.

Your body is incredibly wise. It is always trying to return to balance. It is always trying to care for and protect you.

If you find it hard to listen, maybe I can do it for you.

Sometimes tissue just needs acknowledgement and gratitude to release.

Double hip squeezes in labour are an effective method of pain relief and can feel super stabilising as a woman receiving them.

BUT…

If you’re using hip squeezes to change the available space for baby in the pelvis, you’re probably not.

Move your hands to either the iliums (arches on the sides of the pelvis) or sitz bones if you want to help a woman create pelvic space.

How hard do you squeeze? That is completely guided by her.

If you want to gain the skills, confidence and knowledge to provide practical support and advocacy to your loved on in labour, join me for private birth preparation.

Details and bookings on the website.

The best pregnancy and postpartum products are created by women who have sought a solution to their own experiences - and the Nest & Nurture Easy Glide Sheet is the perfect example of this!

The Easy Glide Sheet eliminates friction to help you reposition in bed with ease, reducing strain through the hips, pelvis, core and lower back.

It takes the effort out of turning to allow smooth, supported movement without painful or awkward effort, prefect for:
- Pregnancy discomfort
- Pelvic pain or dysfunction
- Core weakness
- Caesarean birth recovery
- Overnight feeds

Created by a Registered Nurse who experienced pelvic girdle pain in pregnancy, the Easy Glide Sheet has been designed and handmade with love and care from specialised fabrics.

Local pick up and delivery is available in Young or with any of Hilltops Women’s Health outreach clinics. Grab yours via the website - https://www.hilltopswomenshealth.com.au/shop/easy-glide

When a woman stands up after 2 hours of Postnatal Bodywork, they have a wiggle, stretch, pause and then I often hear this:
"I feel like things are back where they should be."

Pregnancy, birth and postpartum have a huge impact on your body. Tissues get stretched, tightened, misaligned, imbalanced and asked to put in effort beyond usual expectations.

You might not notice that your uterus or cervix have rotated slightly, or that she's leaning to one side because baby chose one position in pregnancy, or birthed in a way that pulled on her when she was at maximum effort. But you may feel a 'bit off' in your lower abdomen, have painful s*x or your periods might be different.

You may not notice that your respiratory diaphragm or stomach are stuck to your ribs, but you may have lingering reflux or shortness of breath.

You may not notice that your belly fascia is tight and twisted, but you may have intermittent constipation or diarrhoea, or have abdominal separation or core weakness that just isn't getting any better.

You may not notice that your nervous system is hyperactive, but you may notice goosebumps, fatigue or an inability to switch off.

You may not notice anything until your back, pelvic or neck pain start screaming at you to listen.

Or, you may quietly tune into your body and ask it what care it needs.

Postpartum Bodywork is an unravelling, a listening and a connection to body based on your experiences of pregnancy, birth and postpartum. It's realignment and a gentle invitation for tissues to return to their home. And to rest.

This is the care every postpartum woman deserves.

Get the details and book your Postpartum Bodywork session on the website.

Yes, I set up the space and read your notes.

But this piece, this meditation and aligning I do before every session - this is what makes a difference to our session together.

Because my mind, nervous system, energy, hands and heart need to be in tune to care for you.

You’re important. You deserve this.
