Did you know?
ADHD is more common in children with epilepsy.

Many children with epilepsy also have ADHD.
The brain pathways involved in attention, focus, and regulation can overlap — but one does not cause the other.

For families like ours, this means understanding the whole child, not just one diagnosis 💜
Support looks different when you see the full picture.

Did you know ADHD is neurological?
It’s not caused by poor parenting, sugar, or lack of discipline.

ADHD brains process information differently — attention, impulse control, and emotional regulation all work in unique ways.
Understanding this helps us respond with patience, support, and compassion 💛

Because kids don’t choose ADHD — they live with it.

Hospital visits, doctor appointments, wires, tests…
This is part of Carrick’s life.

This month at Beyond Epilepsy, we’re focusing on ADHD 💛

ADHD is a big part of Carrick’s journey — alongside epilepsy — and it shapes how he experiences the world, learns, focuses, and regulates his emotions.

Over the coming weeks, we’ll be sharing simple ADHD facts, awareness, and pieces of our real life — because Beyond Epilepsy has always been about seeing the whole child, not just one diagnosis.

Thank you for being here 💜

Happy New Year ✨

We’ve been quiet — not because life paused, but because family came first.
Sometimes strength looks like slowing down, breathing, and choosing presence.

This page may be new, but the journey is not.
We took time to reset, to be together, and to gather the energy needed to keep moving forward.

As we step into this new year, we wish everyone peace, health, and gentle days ahead.
The sea reminds us: waves keep coming, but so does calm.

Here’s to continuing life beyond epilepsy 💜🌊

This is such an important reminder 💜 Neurodivergent brains don’t need to be “fixed” — they need to be understood, supported, and loved. Awareness starts with listening.

Traveling with epilepsy has its complications but with our community tips, you can make your next holiday as comfortable, smooth, and enjoyable as possible.

Did you know?
There are many misunderstandings about ADHD, so here’s what it is not:
✨ Not bad behavior
✨ Not laziness
✨ Not a lack of discipline
✨ Not a child ignoring you on purpose

ADHD affects how the brain manages focus, impulses, and energy.
When we look at it with understanding instead of judgment, everything changes — for the child and the family. 💛💜

Did you know?
ADHD shows up in 3 main ways:

1️⃣ Focus
Trouble staying on one task, easily distracted, or needing reminders — not because they don’t care, but because their brain jumps quickly.

2️⃣ Impulsivity
Acting fast without thinking, interrupting, or forgetting to “pause” — their brain reacts before it slows down.

3️⃣ Energy Levels
Lots of movement, fidgeting, talking fast, or switching activities — their body follows their busy mind.

For Carrick, we see a mix of all three, and every day we learn how to guide him with patience, routines, support, and his medication that helps calm his mind.
Kids with ADHD aren’t trying to be difficult — they’re trying their best with a brain that works differently. 💛💜

Carrick + Christmas villages = pure happiness ☃🎅🏼🎄✨
After almost 4 years without them, he’s extra excited this season — watching every tiny house and car with the biggest smile.
Jingle Bells on repeat, of course 🎶💛

Did you know?
ADHD (Attention-Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder) is a brain-based condition that affects focus, impulsivity, and activity levels.
It isn’t caused by parenting or personality — it’s simply how the brain processes information.

For Carrick, ADHD shows up in his energy, curiosity, and the way he moves through the world.
He also takes Methylfenidate, a medication that helps calm the brain, improve focus, and steady his thoughts so he can learn and participate more comfortably.

With routines, patience, and the right support, he grows in his own way — and that is perfectly okay. 💛💜

“Haircuts used to be a big challenge… but look at him now 💜✂️
Sitting still, looking up when we remind him, waiting patiently.
Small wins that feel like huge victories.”
Thank you for the patience🫶🏻💜🩵
