Get • Admission to the Psychiatric Hospital is a critical aspect of care that is provided when individuals require 24-hour medical care to stabilise and manage mental illness. However, like general health services, mental health care is not only provided in the hospital setting. It is also delivered at the Psychiatric Hospital’s Outpatient Clinic, through community-based mental health clinics located in each of the polyclinics, and in the St. Andrew and Horse Hill Outpatient Clinics.
Mental health services are delivered by a team of professionals who diagnose illness and provide appropriate interventions according to the level of severity being experienced by affected persons. These professionals include psychiatrists, nurses trained in mental health specialties, psychologists, occupational therapists and social workers.
Similar to the process of successfully treating persons who are experiencing general medical conditions such as diabetes and hypertension, following and adhering to prescribed treatments, including medication, is essential and necessary for the management of individuals experiencing mental health conditions.
Daily, individuals are being successfully treated in outpatient settings and as a result, they are continuing to thrive and function in their homes, schools, workplaces and communities. We all have a shared responsibility to look after our own mental health, that of our families and of individuals in our wider community.

Support individuals who are already getting care to ensure that they continue to manage their condition and remain active and productive members of our community.
