Every 40 seconds, someone chooses death over life...the crippling effects of depression, loss, social isolation, mental disorders, traumatic stress, terminal illness and chronic pain can be so severe that persons are blinded to their options.

Today is our opportunity to get educated, raise awareness, advocate against the social stigma associated with mental health issues and make a difference...

Fund Goal: BDS $200,000.00

Purpose:
Medical expenses resulting from diagnosis with the debilitating condition bi-lateral Neurogenic Heterotopic Ossification of the hip joints secondary to Guillain-Barré Syndrome.

Treatment:
Multiple resection surgeries – total bi-lateral hip replacement – intensive postoperative rehabilitation therapy

I wear BLUE for GUILLAIN-BARRÉ SYNDROME Awareness & Fundraising Drive had the pleasure of hosting at Limegrove Lifestyle Centre last Saturday.

As always, I am thankful for the opportunity to raise awareness for Guillain-Barré Syndrome & Heterotopic Ossification and more so to everyone who took the time to speak with me and offer financial support – you have made a difference!

When Heterotopic Ossification develops, the new bone grows at 3 times the normal rate causing jagged edges that make moving the joint(s) difficult and painful.

Within just 1 month of being in ICU, any attempt to move my legs was so painful that my heart rate spiked and the heart monitor beeped incessantly.

Within 2 months the heterotopic bone was completely encasing both hip joints restricting all movement.

With hip surgery, the excess bone will be removed and the hip joints replaced to restore movement and allow me to stand straight, lay flat and move my legs.

The combination of nerve damage associated with Guillain-Barré Syndrome and the immobility of my hips because of Heterotopic Ossification has made severe lower back a constant in my life for over three years...hip surgery is the ultimate solution but until then, I am prepared to try any trusted therapy that can offer relief, even if it is only temporary... Therapeutic Ultrasound is one of the therapies on that list!
