Happy World Health Day!

In this International Year of the Nurse and the Midwife, 2020 highlights the current status of nursing and around the world.

Today we celebrate the work of nurses and midwives and remind world leaders of the critical role they play in keeping the world healthy. Nurses and other health workers are at the forefront of COVID-19 response - providing high quality, respectful treatment and care, leading community dialogue to address fears and questions and, in some instances, collecting data for clinical studies. Quite simply, without nurses, there would be no response.

Be sure to thank a nurse and midwife today!

World Health Organization (WHO) has launched the first ever State of the World’s Nursing Report 2020. The report provides a global picture of the nursing workforce and support evidence-based planning to optimize the contributions of this workforce to improve health and wellbeing for all. The report sets the agenda for data collection, policy dialogue, research and advocacy, and investment in the health workforce for generations to come: https://bit.ly/2Vb0QwA

4 February is
By raising worldwide awareness, improving education and catalysing personal, collective and government action, we're working together to reimagine a world where millions of preventable cancer deaths are saved and access to life-saving cancer treatment and care is equal for all - no matter who you are or where you live.

This year's World Cancer Day's theme, 'I Am and I Will', is all about you and your commitment to act. We believe that through our positive actions, together we can reach the target of reducing the number of premature deaths from cancer and noncommunicable diseases by one third by 2030. Find out how cancer affects us all and the power we have to reduce the rising incidence of cancer.

You can also support and follow the The Barbados Cancer Society and Barbados Cancer Society - Champions In Pink for resources in Barbados.

Good posture can boost more than a person's self-confidence. It also offers long term health benefits, such as:

- reduced back pain
- decreased risk of injury
- reduced stress on the muscles and joints

Over time, the body will learn to correct bad posture naturally. In this article, we discuss effective exercises and other tips for better posture.

Many exercises can help improve posture, including bridges, planks, and other yoga poses. In this article, we look at healthy posture when standing, sitting, and lying down. We also explore exercises and tips for maintaining good posture.

This feature investigates whether the bacteria that live in our guts could influence our blood pressure. If so, could they guide future treatment?

Hypertension is growing in prevalence, but can we blame gut bacteria? Scientists are growing increasingly interested in the role of gut bacteria.

Each week, journals publish many study papers that examine how these microscopic visitors might play a role in health and disease.

As it stands, because the microbiome is a relatively new field of study, the full scope of gut bacteria's role in health is still up for debate. However, it is becoming increasingly clear that the bacteria in our gut can open new avenues in our understanding of a wide range of conditions.

Over recent years, researchers have investigated the potential role of gut bacteria in hypertension. Although evidence is mounting, questions remain.
