Palliative care is not just a medical service—it’s a deep human connection that transcends life itself.
During my recent visit to Beacon Cancer Hospital in Kuala Lumpur, I was humbled to witness something truly moving. Dr. Felicia kindly invited me to a memorial ceremony at a church—held in honor of an elderly couple, both of whom had suffered from advanced dementia and passed away recently.
What made this moment so profound was not just the ceremony, but the presence of the palliative care team—invited by the family as part of their own.
I saw with my own eyes how this team had become woven into the family’s journey, not only in managing pain or symptoms, but in offering dignity, presence, and love—right up to the end, and beyond.
In that space, it was clear: Palliative care is about people.
People who care.
People who share.
People who remain connected—even after death.
The family sincerely acknowledged the team’s dedication, with heartfelt gratitude that needed no translation. It was a powerful reminder that our work is not measured just in clinical outcomes—but in comfort, compassion, and continuity.
This experience has deepened my belief that palliative care is a calling—a bridge between life, death, and all the sacred moments in between.
To all palliative care teams across the globe: your presence matters more than words can express.
Thank you, Dr. Felicia and the Beacon team, for showing me this truth in action.
