Kuala Lumpur, 25 April 2026 Families of detained Rohingya refugees have urged the Malaysian government to release their relatives, including women and children, who fled violence in Myanmar’s Rakhine State in search of safety.

According to multiple sources, more than 5,000 Rohingya refugees are currently being held in detention, with some reportedly detained for over eight years. Images circulating within the community show overcrowded conditions, raising serious concerns about the detainees’ health and well-being.

Family members say they fear for the safety and future of their loved ones. “They escaped violence hoping to live in peace, but now they are behind bars,” one relative said, appealing to authorities for their release.

Human rights groups and affected families are calling for urgent action, urging Malaysia to end prolonged detention and uphold the fundamental rights and dignity of Rohingya refugees.
