Lower Back Pain – Do’s and Don’ts
Having a healthy spine is of paramount importance if you wish to lead an active lifestyle. Most people don’t realise that they make numerous mistakes in their day-to-day lives that compromise their spinal health and lead to issues like lower back pain. Well, the good news is that this issue can be resolved by changing some of your regular habits. Here is a list of a few tips that you can incorporate in your daily life to alleviate lower back pain-
1. Don’t slouch
You should always maintain a healthy posture when you are sitting in a chair to avoid straining your lower back. Moreover, sit for short intervals, take breaks from sitting and avoid bending forward while getting up from the chair.
2. Lift Properly
People tend to bend forward while lifting objects in their everyday life. This puts unnecessary pressure on your discs and leads to their degeneration. If you wish to lift something from the ground, bend at your knees and keep your back straight while lifting the object to minimise the pressure on your spine.
3. Maintain A Proper Posture While Sleeping
Make a habit of sleeping on a bed that supports your body properly. Take a pillow between your knees when you sleep on one side to maintain proper spinal posture. Avoid sleeping on your stomach as it puts pressure on your lower back muscles.
4. Build your core
A strong core will support your spine effectively and keep issues like lower back pain at bay. Try inculcating core-strengthening exercises in your gym routine to develop your core.
5. Stretch frequently
Standing or sitting for long hours can put a lot of pressure on your spine. You can relieve this pressure by walking around for some time or by doing some simple stretches during the day.
