Psychotic Disorder appears and exists in different forms. In our daily lives we are exposed to these disorders and unknowingly many of us are undiagnosed people. Awareness of these topics will contribute to our betterment and to those around us. Here are some of the more common types that we can see and hear of in our regular lives.

A Psychotic Disorder is a mental health condition characterized by significant disturbances in thinking, perception, emotions, and behavior. Individuals experiencing psychotic disorders often struggle to distinguish between what is real and what is not. Common symptoms include hallucinations (perceiving things that aren't present) and delusions (strongly held false beliefs). These disorders can disrupt daily functioning, relationships, and overall quality of life. Psychotic disorders encompass a range of conditions, such as schizophrenia, schizoaffective disorder, and delusional disorder. Treatment typically involves a combination of antipsychotic medications, psychotherapy, and support from mental health professionals and loved ones. Early intervention is crucial for better outcomes, as prompt treatment can help manage symptoms and enhance the individual's ability to lead a fulfilling life.

It is normal to feel overwhelmed at times, but it is very important to know what to do when we feel overwhelmed. Often when we are overwhelmed, we feel an outpour of emotions, and we may feel very lost and out of touch with reality. And if we don’t leave some time for self-care, this may lead to us feeling like we are going down a downward spiral of doom. When feeling anxious follow these techniques to ground yourself again.

Most importantly, remember this is only temporary.

And also remember, every problem has a solution. There are things that are beyond your control but think of the things that are in your control and what you can do about them.

Following the recent rise in advocating for mental health and self-care, everyone must be already familiar with the concept of self-care. Self-care consists of taking care of all the aspects of our lives: physical, psychological, spiritual, social, and professional. The key to a healthy and happy life is to balance and maintain a healthy state in all these areas of well-being.Usually, when we talk about self-care, we usually think of bubble baths, meditation, journaling … while these are all self-care habits, there are many other helpful self-care ideas we may miss out on. So here is a list of some ideas that are also very important. Hopefully, You can find at least one or two from this list that you can incorporate into your life.

Have you ever wondered what hormone is responsible for your mood and feelings? Serotonin is the key hormone that stabilizes our mood, feelings of well-being, and happiness. Serotonin also helps with sleeping, eating, and digestion.

At a healthy serotonin level, you should feel more focused, emotionally stable, happier, and calmer. However, if the brain has too little serotonin, it may lead to depression and other mood disorders. So, it is very essential to maintain a normal serotonin level. While there are many ways to boost serotonin, maintaining a healthy diet is a major one. The magic shop brings to you a list of natural foods that will help you boost your serotonin level.

Light therapy

Have you ever heard of light therapies? Seems interesting isn’t it?

Men's mental health is often not talked about
Did you know that 40% of men won’t talk about their mental health?
Mental health defines the emotional, psychological and social well-being of a person. Due to various reasons men have often felt burdened to speak up about their struggles especially in a society where men are considered to be weak if they show any vulnerability. It's time to destigmatize these stigmas surrounding men’s mental health.

Childhood is a very important phase of our lives, some say it's the only time of your life you would want to experience endlessly with no satisfaction. Our childhood is like a cocoon that envelops us in its warm protective embrace, prepares us for the real world and then finally lets us out from its warmth when we have grown into beautiful butterflies. However, there are few in this world for whom one bad or traumatic experience while they were young is enough to break the protective barricades of their childhood and proceed to haunt their mental health in the future. We tend to neglect young people’s mental health even though we are aware of the fact how vulnerable they can be and how it will affect them in the long run. It is sad to see how these young people who are supposed to enjoy their young life, sit meekly in a corner whilst they continue to fight the battle against their bad mental health, some triumph, however, unfortunately for few, it continues till their old age.

The magic shop presents to you all about a child’s mental health from how it occurs to few tips on how you can help them.

Here are some comforting messages to say to anyone who may be going through a difficult time to bring them some comfort. Cheer them on, show your love and support. Remind and reassure them, whenever you find them slipping into an unhealthy mental state. Take special care, if the person is suicidal and needs immediate help, seek help from a crisis helpline.

We all have been in that one position once in our life where comforting someone seems like such an alien topic to us. We start searching for that one word or that one specific piece of advice and expect it to magically fix everything for the person who is hurting, but we fail to understand that an inspiring platitude is not the most comforting thing someone is looking forward to hearing while they are feeling so low. They rather want to experience the feeling of empathy, few words of reassurance, encouragement, small gestures and comforting silence. That is all they need the most sometimes.
The magic shop presents you with a few important key points to act upon when you are trying to comfort someone.

A highly sensitive person (HSP) is a term for those who are thought to have an increased or deeper central nervous system sensitivity to physical, emotional, or social stimuli. Although HSP’s are sometimes negatively described as being “too sensitive”, it also comes with some very strong personal traits and characteristics.

The Magic Shop brings you ways to understand whether you are a highly sensitive person physically or/and mentally.
Remember there is nothing bad about being a sensitive person, it means you feel more, hence, you care more.

Take the HSP test in the link given!

1) There is one death by su***de in the world every 40 seconds, and su***de is one of the leading causes of death for 15-29-year-olds.

2) More than 700000 people die due to su***de every year.

It’s high time that more efforts are put into su***de prevention. Many su***des happen impulsively in moments of crisis with a breakdown in the ability to deal with life stresses, such as financial problems, relationship break-up, or chronic pain and illness as well as due to prolonged mental illnesses. To prevent su***de in these crisis moments especially and su***de linked with mental illnesses, such features that provide crisis resources may be crucially valuable. Let’s all call for change for the better, some ways to do this are given above.

TW:// self-harm

There have been many cases throughout the years where few accounts, groups and hashtags promoted and glamorised suicidal and self-harm content on Instagram, which lead to have a negative impact on young and vulnerable people using the platform. It was a shock to the public when they learned that social media platforms like Facebook and Instagram had even allowed such negative content to be even posted on the platform in the first place and that these posts had chances to be on the explore page responding to the social media algorithm.

Instagram and Facebook have finally taken a step forward in responding to this problem by censoring or providing a warning page whenever a user searches for harmful content relating to self-harming. This warning page provides a “ get support” option that includes: talk to a friend, talk to a helpline volunteer and provide ways to support yourself. Read the slides to learn more.

The magic shop will bring more information about this topic in our later posts so stay tuned to know more.

“Trigger Warning- TW”

TWs are respectful ways to communicate about deeply personal issues while refraining from delegitimizing someone’s experience. It does not mean that we should avoid the topic altogether-it simply means that we should address the topic with nuance.

Trigger warnings are simple ways to help survivors avoid reliving the event, reduce distress, and allow them to prepare themselves mentally. TW helps victims to prepare themselves or simply avoid the content if it might trigger their PTSD. Symptoms of PTSD includes-

1) Reliving the event (or re-experiencing)
2) Negative changes in beliefs and feelings
3) Feeling keyed up (hyperarousal)
4) Facing trouble sleeping
5) Facing trouble concentrating,
6) getting startled easily, or
7) the need to have your back to the wall in restaurants or waiting rooms.

Trigger warnings in advance allow people to switch to self-preservation mode or leave if need be. This allows them to react to the situation privately and make decisions about how to proceed.

Content warning:
Were you ever so stressed about something that you couldn’t stop thinking about it and then you realised that the tub of ice cream that you were enjoying a moment ago thinking that this is the only thing that can bring you comfort and you will just have a few bites, is now empty? Yes because same. The guilty feeling you get after that binge is not the best feeling in the world, it just adds to your misery and makes you feel horrible.

Now think of it as someone going through this more often than just occasionally. The regular anxiety and guilt or the physical discomfort after the binge, doesnt sound very pleasant right?. That is because it isn’t. Stress eating becomes a habit for few and it relies much on their emotions even the slight mood change brings them in front of their fridge with the temptation of the next binge. Most of the time, individuals suffering from stress eating are not really hungry but the craving and the idea that “food can cure everything” makes them consume food unconditionally to the point of discomfort.

How to handle someone with an eating disorder?
1) Set positive examples for example introduce balance and nutritious meals over strict dieting
2) Don’t make them feel that they are the problem
3) Help them develop a good perception of their body image.
4) Be mindful of triggers

If you are someone struggling with eating disorders this is a reminder that you can overcome it. There will be few fails and wins and maybe more failures than you even imagine. Don’t let that put you down because one day when you break free from the shackles of your eating disorders, you will be more proud to talk about your failures than your wins.
