বাংলাদেশের খামারিদের আস্থায় ব্র্যাক কৃত্রিম প্রজনন এন্টারপ্রাইজ But as the cows could not produce the ideal amount of milk required BRAC thought of the solution of breeding high-yielding dairy cows. With that goal in mind, BRAC started training volunteers in Artificial Insemination or AI and has successfully trained 4,500 artificial insemination service providers as of today. BRAC started making its own bull semen and provided liquid nitrogen to their AISPs so that they can preserve semen without electricity. After 2007 BRAC Artificial Insemination Program became a self-sufficient and independent social enterprise. BRAC Artificial Insemination Enterprise has two bull stations: BRAC Bull and Buck Station in Mymensingh, Bangladesh, and BRAC Bull and Breeding Station in Bogra, Bangladesh
BRAC AIE today has 200+ bulls and 27 Black Bengal bucks. BRAC AIE imports high-quality bulls from abroad and then extracts collects and preserves their semen. The semen frozen in Nitrogen gets distributed from the bull station to the 120 area sales centers all around Bangladesh. Artificial insemination service providers not only inseminate farmers’ cows but also train farmers on caring for the general health of their cows (water supplementation, proper nutrition, housing and management, disease prevention, cattle breed selection, and breed development). The artificial Insemination process allows the farmers to breed high-quality calves which grow up to be high-yielding female or above-average male cows that fare better price and more beef. BRAC AIE produces high-quality semen from more livestock including:
Holstein Friesian: Crossbreed and 100% breed (milk breed)
Sahiwal: Crossbreed and 100% from abroad (milk and meat breed)
Red Chittagong Cattle
Buffalo Semen
Black Bengal Goat
Today, BRAC Artificial Insemination Enterprise covers 64 districts across Bangladesh and has inseminated a total of about 2.83 million cattle in 2019. The districts covered also contribute to BRAC Dairy and Food Project. BRAC Artificial Insemination has contributed to the success of profitable dairy farming, helping to fuel the demand for milk in Bangladesh. In 2019, BRAC AIE established a cattle breed development research center at the Bogra Bull and Breeding station that aims to produce pure-bred bulls using embryo transfer technology as well as new cattle breed that can adapt very naturally to the local environments. BRAC AIE has proven to be a very profitable social enterprise that is working on expanding artificial insemination services throughout Bangladesh and introducing innovation for both dairy development as well as research and planning is undergoing to create the highest quality bulls.
