Grameen Health Care Services Ltd. In order to bring the vulnerable people above the poverty line it is very important to address their health issues.

(GHS) is a Social Business Enterprise working to address the healthcare service sector, particularly eye care treatment in Bangladesh, especially to the low income and less privileged people. It is seen from the experience that a significant number of people remain under poverty line, despite their continuous efforts of coming out from the poverty. Whenever they succeeded to cross the poverty line and fight to remain out of the poverty, in many cases, the health problem for the incumbent or a family member pushes them to the poverty again and again. In its long experience Grameen Bank (GB) realized that without improvement of health care facilities to the rural poor only through Micro-credit, it is not possible to ensure keeping them out of poverty permanently. In order to get a quick result from micro credit and to see their productive life, GB has been initiated an action research project to develop a Rural Health Program (RIAP) in 1993. Grameen Kalyan (GK) was intended to provide quality primary health care services to GB members as well as non-member preventive and promotional health services with special emphasis on family planning, reproductive health, maternal and child health. One of the important objective is to make the program self-sustainable and ensure to reach the qualitative health care services to the un-reached within affordable cost. Considering the health care situation in Bangladesh and its impact in the poverty issue, Prof. Muhammad Yunus decided to create a separate entity for providing affordable health care facilities to the low-income population of Bangladesh especially leaving in the rural area. With this idea the "Grameen Health Care Services Ltd. (GHS) - A Social Business Enterprise is established as a no loss Company.

Grameen Healthcare Services Ltd. has signed an agreement with Orbis International to establish Women-Led Green Vision Centres, worth approximately USD 820,000 (over BDT 10 crore) for the next three years. This initiative aligns strongly with the 3 Zero concept and is the first of its kind in Bangladesh.

Under this partnership, Orbis International will support the establishment of 6 new vision centres and the upgradation of 5 existing centres of GHS over the next three years.

The signing ceremony was attended by Dr. Munir Ahmed, Country Director of Orbis International, along with senior officials from the Orbis Bangladesh office.

This collaboration marks a significant step towards expanding eye care access, empowering women, and promoting sustainable healthcare solutions in Bangladesh.

Grameen Health Care services ltd. operating 4 secondary level eye hospitals in Bagura, Barisal, Thakurgaom & Satkhira, with a fifth one under construction at Rajshahi.
The board members of GHS visited (12.04.2025) the Grameen GC Eye Hospital-Barisal Hospital to observe operations firsthand, attend a board meeting, and lay the foundation stone for the new building as part of the hospital’s expansion plan.
This hospital currently serves more than 400 patients per day. After the planned expansion, it will be able to accommodate more than 1,000 patients daily.
