Proton therapy is a highly precise form of external beam radiation treatment that uses positively charged particles (protons) to destroy cancer cells by damaging their DNA.

জরায়ুমুখের ক্যান্সার (Cervical Cancer) সম্পর্কে সচেতনতা বৃদ্ধি করতে জানুয়ারি মাসকে সারাবিশ্বে Cervical Cancer Awareness Month হিসেবে পালন করা হয়।

📌Cervical (জরায়ুমুখ) ক্যান্সার কি?
জরায়ুমুখের ক্যান্সার হলো জরায়ুর নিচের অংশে শুরু হওয়া একটি ক্যান্সার, যা মহিলাদের মধ্যে অনেক ক্ষেত্রে ধীরে ধীরে শুরু হয় এবং সময়মতো ধরা পড়লে প্রায় পুরোপুরি নিরাময়যোগ্য।

📌 কেন এটা গুরুত্বপূর্ণ
এই ক্যান্সার সবচেয়ে বেশি HPV (Human Papillomavirus) সংক্রমণের সঙ্গে সম্পর্কিত, যেটি খুবই সাধারণ ভাবে ছড়াতে পারে এবং শুরুতে কোনও লক্ষণ নাও দেখাতে পারে। নিয়মিত স্ক্রিনিং এবং HPV ভ্যাকসিন নেওয়া হলে এটি অধিকাংশ ক্ষেত্রে প্রতিরোধযোগ্য।

📌 প্রতিরোধ ও করণীয়:
▫️ বয়স অনুযায়ী HPV ভ্যাকসিন নেওয়া।
▫️ নিয়মিত সার্ভিকাল স্ক্রিনিং করানো।
▫️ অস্বাভাবিক রক্তপাত, ব্যথা, গন্ধযুক্ত স্রাব, ইত্যাদি হলে দ্রুত ডাক্তার দেখানো।

সার্বজনীন শিক্ষা ও সচেতনতা বাড়ালে, অনেক নারী এই ক্যান্সারের হাত থেকে নিজেকে রক্ষা করতে পারেন। তাই নিজে সচেতন থাকুন ও শেয়ার করে অন্যদেরও সচেতন করুন।

The exact cause of colon cancer is not known, but certain factors are linked to the disease, such as genetics: People with a family history of colon cancer, Gardner syndrome or certain hereditary cancer syndromes (such as Lynch syndrome or familial adenomatous polyposis) have a higher risk, which also increases with age. Other known risk factors for colon cancer include:

Symptoms of Colon Cancer

Colorectal cancer may not cause any signs or symptoms in its early stages because the cancer is very small. Symptoms often appear once a tumour grows into surrounding tissues and organs. Other health conditions can cause the same symptoms as colorectal cancer.

Consult with your doctor if you have these signs or symptoms:

diarrhea

constipation

stool (p**p) that looks narrower than usual

feeling like the re**um is not completely empty after a bowel movement

bright or very dark red blood in the stool

bleeding from the re**um

gas, abdominal cramps and feeling bloated

pain or discomfort in the re**um

Treatment for breast cancer :

Treatment for breast cancer depends on the subtype of cancer and how much it has spread outside of the breast to lymph nodes (stages II or III) or to other parts of the body (stage IV).

Medical treatments:

Doctors combine treatments to minimize the chances of the cancer coming back (recurrence). These include:
surgery to remove the breast tumour
radiation therapy to reduce recurrence risk in the breast and surrounding tissues.

medications to kill cancer cells and prevent spread, including hormonal therapies, chemotherapy or targeted biological therapies.

Treatments for breast cancer are more effective and are better tolerated when started early and taken to completion.

Surgery may remove just the cancerous tissue (called a lumpectomy) or the whole breast (mastectomy). Surgery may also remove lymph nodes to assess the cancer’s ability to spread.

Radiation therapy treats residual microscopic cancers left behind in the breast tissue and/or lymph nodes and minimizes the chances of cancer recurring on the chest wall.

How do you prevent breast cancer?

While there is no certain way to prevent breast cancer, maintaining some healthy habits can help lower your risk.
Here are some of them:
• Maintain a healthy weight
• Engage regularly in physical activities
• Limit or avoid alcohol
• Breastfeed
• Perform monthly breast self-examinations and go for regular breast screening

In any breast cancer treatment, the normal cells may be affected. Thus, treatments may lead to side effects and complications, such as:
• Mouth sores
• Nausea
• Nerve damage
• Diarrhoea
• Burning pain and scarring due to radiation therapy
• Post-surgery pain
• Lymphoedema or swelling
• Infection
• Hematoma – blood build-up outside the blood vessels
• Seroma – fluid build-up underneath the skin
• Negative reaction to anaesthesia
• Heart disease
• Secondary cancers like leukemia and soft tissue sarcoma
