Innovation for Wellbeing Foundation (IWF) proudly joined the Commonwealth Alumni Showcase hosted by the British Council Bangladesh on 8th November in Dhaka, where over 120 alumni celebrated innovation, entrepreneurship, and impact. The event radiated with inspiring stories—reimagining healthcare, advancing gender equity, and transforming urban spaces for a better tomorrow.

At our vibrant stall, we showcased:
✨ Mental Health Assessment & Counselling – confidential, expert-led emotional support.
✨ Mental Health First Aid (MHFA) Training – empowering communities to respond to mental health challenges.
✨ Wellbeing Ecosystem Bangladesh (WEB) Network – connecting changemakers for collective wellbeing.
✨ Mon Janala – Bangladesh’s first mental health and psychosocial support app.

Our interactive corner drew enthusiastic crowds through creative tools like the Wellbeing Wheel and Body Mapping, sparking reflection and meaningful conversations on mental health. We were honored to welcome distinguished Commonwealth Scholars, including Prof. Dr. Borhan Uddin Khan, President of BACSAF, and Prof. M. Muniruzzaman, former Vice Chancellor of Jahangirnagar University, whose encouragement energized our mission.

IWF’s Executive Director, Monira Rahman, a Commonwealth Fellow, represented the Health & Life Sciences group in one of the ten co-creation workshops. Together with fellow scholars and students, she emphasized the urgent need to foster youth wellbeing in educational institutions—paving the way for a mentally resilient generation of future leaders

🌱 Strengthening Mental Health Systems through the Wellbeing Ecosystem Bangladesh (WEB) Network 🌱

Guided by this vision “Wellbeing inspires Welldoing”, Innovation for Wellbeing Foundation (IWF), with support from The Wellbeing Project (TWP), hosted 4 numbers of workshops as part of Strategic Planning & Subsector Agenda-Building for the WEB Network .

Today's theme was Ecology and Wellbeing with leaders/changemakers/artists and enthusiasts for ecological belonging.

This convening brought together leading institutions such as Green Savers, Youth Net, BRAC-Climate Change Program, Friendship, COAST Foundation, Prakritik Krishi O Pran Boichitro Khamar, Bangladesh Youth Environmental Initiative (BYEI), Nature Conservation Management (NACOM), Lal Sobuj Society, Bangladesh Poribesh Andolon (BAPA), Channel 24, and renowned artists Ayreen Khan and Arham Chowdhury and Nuzhat Rahman. Together, they united for the people and planet.

Facilitated by Professor Kamal Chowdhury, Department of Clinical Psychology, University of Dhaka and Rubina Jahan, the changemakers identified several strategic priorities:

📌 There is limited awareness among people working in the ecology and climate change sector about their contribution to wellbeing and how their own wellbeing can be nurtured.

📌 Advocating for and meaningfully participating in policy dialogues is essential to integrate Ecological Wellbeing Action Programs into national and local adaptation strategies.

📌 Growth in Bangladesh is still measured primarily through GDP (Gross Domestic Product); it is high time to promote a Wellbeing Index as a complementary measure of national progress.

📌 The wellbeing of leaders and changemakers in the ecology and climate change sectors also needs focused attention and support.

📌 The wellbeing of ground-level workers—such as farmers, marine life workers, and frontline disaster management staff—often remains overlooked. Community-based programs to ensure their holistic wellbeing must be initiated.

👉 The Way Forward

📌 Normalize conversations about wellbeing and self-care by hosting regular workshops, seminars, summits, and open discussions.

📌 Advocate for a secured budget allocation for ecological wellbeing initiatives in schools, workplaces, and climate change sectors.

📌 Mobilize collaborative policy dialogues and collective action to strengthen government initiatives for ecological wellbeing.

📌 Introduce mental health professionals within climate and ecology-based organizations to ensure the wellbeing of staff and changemakers.

🌱Strengthening Mental Health Systems through the Wellbeing Ecosystem Bangladesh (WEB) Network 🌱

Guided by this vision “Wellbeing inspires Welldoing”, Innovation for Wellbeing Foundation (IWF), with support from The Wellbeing Project (TWP), hosted a Strategic Planning & Subsector Agenda-Building Workshop recently in Dhaka under the Wellbeing Ecosystem Bangladesh (WEB) Network platform.

This convening brought together leading institutions including Shaheed Suhrawardee Medical College & Hospital, World Health Organization Bangladesh, Trauma Counseling Center (NTCC), Moshal Mental Health , Samida's Garage, Department of Counseling Psychology of Dhaka University, James P. Grant School BRAC, Aqidah Healthcare , wEvolve , BRAC, and Autism Welfare Foundation. Together, they united behind one urgent mission to strengthen Bangladesh’s mental health and wellbeing systems.

Facilitated by Professor Kamal Chowdhury, Department of Clinical Psychology, University of Dhaka and Rubina Jahan, the changemakers identified several strategic priorities:

📌 Train and deploy psychiatrists, psychologists, counselors, and wellbeing coaches across communities and workplaces.

📌 Bangladesh has a Mental Health Policy, Strategy, and Act—but enforcement, funding, and monitoring remain limited. Stronger referral pathways at the Upazila level are essential.

📌 Frontline workers face burnout and compassion fatigue. Embedding wellbeing into institutional policy will safeguard those who safeguard others.

📌 Scale Mental Health Service focused organizations and platform online supports to reach underserved populations.

📌 Secure mental health financing in the national budget and embed wellbeing into schools, workplaces, and healthcare systems.

👉The Way Forward

📌Enforce existing mental health laws with dedicated financing—turning policy into measurable action.

📌 Deploy trained psychologists at Upazila levels, build strong referral networks, and invest in community-based care to expand access nationwide.

📌 Mobilize private sector leaders to prioritize staff wellbeing—because healthy employees are the engine of sustainable growth.

📌Introduce psychologists into schools and equip young people with critical socio-emotional life skills to prepare the next generation for resilience.

📌Journalists, NGOs, practitioners, and policymakers must join forces through the WEB Network to transform awareness into systemic change.

"Wellbeing is not a privilege — it is a human right, and the foundation for sustainable growth."

Guided by this vision, Innovation for Wellbeing Foundation recently convened a Strategic Planning & Sub-Sector Agenda Building Workshop under the Wellbeing Ecosystem Bangladesh (WEB) Network in Dhaka. The workshop focused on placing workplace wellbeing at the core of performance, retention, and responsible growth, contributing to collective wellbeing.

The workshop called for a bold shift from wellbeing to welldoing - embedding care, compassion, and proactive measures into workplace culture, leadership, and policy.

With participation from the British High Commission Bangladesh, UNICEF, Bangladesh Legal Aid and Services Trust - BLAST, WE Global Women Foundation, Porticus Bangladesh, TARANGO, COAST Foundation, Psychological Health and Wellness Care Ltd., Oxfam Bangladesh , and MRDI, the workshop identified strategic priorities:

📌 Build a shared roadmap to integrate wellbeing into organizational systems.
📌 Embed wellbeing within HR, leadership, and policy frameworks.
📌 Invest in people - capacity-building, wellbeing services, and inclusive facilities.
📌 Expand holistic supports such as counseling, trauma care, mental health first aid, digital tools, flexible leave, safe spaces and others.
📌 Foster culture change through prevention, advocacy, and cross-sector collaboration.

Through participatory discussion, participants emphasized that sustainable workplace wellbeing requires collective action, structured investment, and innovation, so every employee can thrive mentally, emotionally, and physically.

Wellbeing Ecosystem Bangladesh Network is hopeful to mainstream workplace wellbeing among changemakers.
