Goalanda Upazila Protibandhi Innayan Sagstha (GUPUS) is a non-political non-religious voluntary social welfare (DPO-based) organization managed by Persons with Disabilities (PWDs). Goland Upazila is situated on the banks of river Padma, which is full of disaster and one of the world's most drought-prone rivers under the Rajbari district in the southeastern region of Bangladesh. The organization wa
s established on January 1, 2013 co-ordination people from all walks of life including 90% disabled persons with the aim of establishing the fundamental rights of people with disabilities and helpless people, mutual cooperation, provision of safe environment, socio-economy development and non-discrimination social system achieving UNCRPD of Goalanda Upazila and its neighboring regions. The organization was the first to convince people of all levels in this area that, "In the ongoing development trend, real comprehensive development at the country and local level is not possible without the exclusion of disabled people. Therefore, in the course of action of the country, the participation of persons with disabilities in all fields, humanitarian cooperation, and obtaining civil rights must be ensured. Members of GPUS hold to believe that persons with disabilities will not be a burden to the family, society, and the state if they can ensure an appropriate environment, accessibility, necessary infrastructure, skill development training, employment, and state rights and benefits. They will be transformed into human resources like other human beings. Above All Goalanda Upazila, Protibandhi Unnayan Sangstha is progressing with the aim of improving the quality of life of people with disability, the poor, and the helpless, ensuring their civil rights and benefits, supporting the needy, and implementing CRPD.
