Theme:
"It is time to prioritise Mental Health in the Workplace."
Approximately 1 in 6 people suffering from mental health problems in the workplace.
Mental health issues such as depression & anxiety are pervasive in the workplace, impacting productivity, attendance and overall performance. If left untreated, the economic cost is estimated at about US £ 1 trillion annually by the WHO.
Lack of support for people with mental health conditions can negatively impact their self confidence, enjoyment at work, capacity to work, absences and ability to gain employment.
Poor working conditions, discrimination, stigma, limited autonomy produce reduce job satisfaction & productivity.
Employers should provide managers with training to recognise and address stressors in the workplace.
Supportive work environment fosters mental health & productivity.
Government, employers and representative organisations must work together to create polices that prevent mental health risks, promote well being and build supportive workplace where mental health is prioritised.
