In the weekend of Saturday 3 and Sunday 4 October you will find out how the designers of Tropas, La Gadoue, Triptiek and AMA work with various textile residue streams and design them into high-quality shoes, women's clothing & interior design.

They are central guests during the Open Atelier of ONBETAALBAAR in Ghent and present their products to you. So feel free to pop in and take a look at their collections of women's clothing, shoes and interior design.

These designers were selected for the collective research project TOP-atelier, which aims to demonstrate by spring 2021 that it can be profitable and scalable to produce high-quality design products from post consumer textile waste streams in Belgium. TOP-atelier's partners and the designers are doing this by conducting research into the sorting, selection and cutting methods of this specific residual flow. With the intention of sharing this knowledge and lessons learned with other designers and artists and writing policy recommendations.

TOP-atelier is an initiative of IVOC - Opleiding & Advies voor Mode en Confectie, Creamoda Belgian Fashion, DOEK, De Kringwinkel Ecoso and Prospex Institute, with the support of Vlaanderen Circulair.

On Friday June 19th TOP-atelier and AMS (Antwerp Management School) organize a webinar in which we focus on the need for the transition to a circular fashion and textile industry.

We will take TOP-atelier as a case, look back at the origins of this research and share first experiences and lessons learned. In addition, the five designers of Tropas, La Gadoue, Studio AMA, Triptiek and Paule Josephe will present their high-quality products. There will be time to ask questions after each pitch.

TOP-atelier is an initiative of IVOC, Creamoda, Doek vzw, Ecoso and Prospex Institute, with the support of Vlaanderen Circulair.

Are you a circular designer ?
Do you want to be part of our new project, TOPatelier ?

The goal of TOPatelier is to tackle the complexity of the sustainable and circular repurposing of local textile waste streams and create new opportunities and concepts. We hope by sharing knowledge in between designers, clothing manufacturers, social-economy & clothes sorting organisations. We can find new innovative solutions for textile waste...

TOP-atelier is an initiative of DOEK, IVOC, Creamoda, Komosie and Prospex Institute and receives the support of Flanders Circulair. It originated from our TEXUP project a few years ago, during which various circular design and manufacturing processes with local textile flows were investigated. This showed that more research and experiment is needed for upscaling upcycling products.

What thing or item do you use on a daily basis & is made of textile but isn't clothing? Think about your handkerchief, the carpet you walk on each day, the towel in your bathroom or your eyeglass cleaning cloth.

Just saying, you can also join TOP-atelier with your concept of non-clothing textiles.

Applications are welcome till 24 March.
