When you live with chronic pain, the search for connection is natural. Feeling seen and validated can be deeply healing.

But every day, I see strong, resilient people on social media letting their identity become wrapped up in their condition.

Instead of pain being something they have, it becomes who they are.

This is understandable—we want to be heard, to feel less alone. But focusing too much on pain can unintentionally reinforce it.

This isn’t about blame—it’s about understanding the brain.

Pain Reprocessing Therapy (PRT) teaches us that chronic pain is often a “perceived danger” signal—not actual damage.

Your brain is like a super-alert alarm system, trying to protect you. When we constantly talk about symptoms, we send messages that we’re still in danger.

This shows up in:
• Symptom comparisons
• Adopting pain as identity
• Victim-focused narratives

These fear-based patterns fuel the very pathways that sustain chronic pain.

Healing begins when we shift the narrative.

✨ Start by observing your sensations without fear. Engage in joyful activities. Connect with people who help you focus on living fully—not just regulating symptoms.

It’s about sending your nervous system a new message: You are safe.
