Revisiting one of my first poems I published a decade ago … returning to it with different eyes, deeper clarity and a matured perspective.
“Save me, Rejection
from the Reflection of my Naked Soul”
In the hours where night forgets its name,
as I stood before the mirror, my naked soul emerged; unfiltered, untouched, unbearably pure.
I saw a beauty I had long forgotten…
grace shaped through scars,
strength woven through tenderness.
Uncompromising, perfect in her imperfect becoming.
Eyes carrying every battle I endured,
skin holding every story I tried to hide.
My heart tore open … with awe, with love, with grief.
Grief for the ways I dimmed myself;
for the hiding, the shrinking…
the terror of not being enough.
As she stepped out … crossing the boundaries between reflection and truth; a pact, a vow was made.
Never again to bend to the standards of others.
Never again contorting to mirages of love.
Never again to silence my fire.
From that moment; that vow…
life rose to meet me
with a rising tide,
a force I had long forgotten:
unshakable love.
For I am a soul unafraid to be seen.
